Will You Buy Windows 7???

It's like waiting for christmas!

It actually is, how sad is that!?!

Incidentally, and this is a really minor thing; does anyone know if the Home Premium edition will have the slideshow backgrounds, like the Ultimate RC which I'm currently running? Not a dealbreaker, but I've grown quite fond of it!

Ive found it to be a real nuissance, its not so great at dealing with dual screens and full screen apps - causes pretty bad frame rate drops in games.

Well done Microsoft at the pricing, will be less people pirating it & more people buying it at those favorable prices I'm all for that.

I think you are onto something there Nelly. I used an OEM serial for my copy Vista from someone who wanted to downgrade to XP. Prior to that I had an OEM trick (for about 1-2 months).

I think a LOT of people who would have normally pirated Windows 7 are preordering Win 7, especially considering it is retail. £50 for not having to try out various cracks, test them for malware, and then do the same all over again when the Service Pack comes out is well worth their money, just because it saves so much time.

This will be the very first time I will actually own a boxed version of Windows. Even better I will actually have support from Microsoft for it too. I have never experienced MS support, ever! Having owned OEM versions previously I have never had the oppurtunity to do so. In saying that though, using OEM has taught me a lot about computers, and I do mean a LOT! Ha ha ha!

My Vista Ultimate OEM 32bit has seen various hardware upgrades and of course been used on an ISO image of 64bit ultimate. The retail Vista price was/is ridiculous so I refused to pay the premium yet still shelled out £115 for Vista Ultimate OEM back then.

It's amazing that I'm now paying far less than Vista and getting a fully retail product!

I'll be standing the funky box on my ornament shelf indeed :P

Thing is, Microsoft may very well keep the price the same when October comes!! There will be lots of people around with numerous copies of Win 7!!

no they wont. this is the marketing push, get all the hard cores on it for cheap and they will do the advertising for for MS. look at all of us snapping up a 'bargain' most of ocuk will have a fresh clean install of windows7 by the end of October 2009.... and what will we tell our friends????

I have 2 on order, 1 being HP and the other being Pro. I like the Pro for the Virtual XP. Might not look much now, but as soon as the services packs start comming out, could get better.

I actually think this is Microsofts main anti-piracy tool for the upcoming release. They've spent years trying to beat the pirates with more and more draconian (and at times unworkable) software solutions that have failed. They have finally realised the best and most customer friendly way is to make it cheap and therefore attractive. Couple that with their need to get the Vista neighsayers off of Win XP and into the 21st century proper.

They do seem to on to a winner with this new strategy. :)
