Win 7 Arrives 21st

Pretty impressed with it so far. I've used the beta and RC-1 versions briefly but this is the first time I've installed it onto my main PC.

One thing I have noticed is that the driver support is right up there. Had to go to a few manufacturer's websites to download drivers and am impressed that the Windows 7 drivers are freely available. I'm sure they were never this organised with Vista!

The vast majority of Vista drivers work fine on Win7 without modification, so for many manufacturers, producing Win7 drivers involves simply typing in the following:
Code:
ren CrappyHardware_Vista_x64_v1.1.exe CrappyHardware_Vista_Win7_x64_v1.1.exe

That's exactly what they did with my motherboard drivers. All drivers for Win7 & Vista are the same on my motherboard.

I guess there's no real reason why they should be modified/updated, not enough has really changed to effect many drivers.

Aww yeah, the place I got my Pro is not using RM but DHL

Code:
Date Time Location Event Details
20 Oct 2009 04:02:08 PM Ridgmont Bedfordshire UK Shipment has left seller facility and is in transit

Will be here today

haha, I guess so :D

Even M-Audio have released 7 x64 drivers (albeit in beta format). You wouldn't believe the trouble I had getting Vista 64 drivers... and that was only last year, after the card had been out a good while beforehand.

Vista 64 drivers wouldn't work in this case.

oh noes :( reinstalling / downloading WoW / Steam :(

Steam can all be backed up, and wow can be copied by just copying the folders in your program files or wherever you instructed the initial install.

It will run straight from that no install needed!

There a go just saved you a good few hours of your time.

No need to backup steam, just install the client on top of your old Steam install directory and it'll pick up all your installed games.

If you installed Steam into C:\Program Files you may need to move it to a safe location first, then move it back afterwards.

I received 1 of my copies in the post yesterday :-D

My other copy though does not look like its getting shipped till a few days (its not really a component retailer but they still had it cheap)

The annoying thing though is that I got a booklet from this second retailer that got me all excited!

All I got from my supplier was a few spam emails trying to sell me an external hard drive as apparently you have to reformat when upgrading to 7. No mention of the part where that only applies to users of XP and earlier.

booo postman came and no windows. gutted i've got the weekend off work so was giong to spend it sorting it all out properly.
