Win 7 hangs

Indexing made no difference. In fact the crash that followed was worse (black screen vs frozen previously).

What else should I check?

If using intel RST drivers, you can find a LPM registry change that will let you set the ports your SSD is plugged into so that it won't sleep the drive. I believe that has been used successfully for this type of fault, especially if you also get this intermittently sometime later and not purely at boot up.

Applies to non-Crucial SSDs too.

My drive is actually a hybrid. So it appears as a normal HDD to Windows 7 (I think), but has it's own internal SSD type cache.

OK - so now I've rulled out the PSU, the new memory and the hard drive (cloned the hybrid onto a normal SATA drive). On further googling, this looks like a windows 7 problem! I suspect it's the old wifi card I have installed, so will try ripping that out later...
