VMWare clients are limited to two processors each at present, so you have to install two VM's to fully use a quad core processor.

Damn noobs! Would I need to set the affinity of the second VMWare server to make sure it uses the other two cores? All these questions... sorry! [though it is stuff that probably should have been put in my guide

Interesting question, I never set the affinity of my VMWare's, I wonder whether that would give a few more PPD or make them more stable.

I wouldn't think it would make a difference, but cant test it at the moment.
Vista balanced the 2 VMWare processes over all four cores well enough.

Cool nice temps

I got 3.4GHz on my P5Q on air, temps we're getting high though with Xigmatek HDT-S1283, touched 70°C occaisonally during summer.

P5Q is in the mediacentre now though and just got P5Q Pro sitting at home waiting now, I know both boards can probably easily go much further but need to do something about CPU temps, any suggestions? Can't afford to go water again, however much I love the silence and cool temps of my old rig

I suppose it doesn't matter that much. And at a guess I'd say VMs would automatically avoid using cores already being used by another VM. Either that or rely on Windows to even things out

I think the idea of setting the affinities on a quad is so that you can align one VM proces (or windows smp cores) to two of the cores that share the same memory cache - whether this makes any difference i dont know, but poeple seem to report good points bonuses for the windows clients, so i have tried to do the same for the VMs. There are bits of software that will do it for you, like Set Affinity II, but i could not find one that did everything i needed of it, so went back to doing it the old fashioned way!
