I used to be able under vista to have my music playing through onboard sound card realtek and games through x-fi at same time allowing me to game with headphones whilst listening to iplayer/music.

Can this be done with windows7 ?

I have this and it works just fine under w7. I didnt have to do anything xtra either - both devices appear in the volume mixer and i just set the default device and go from there. I use MPC/MPlayer/VLC media players so i can pick the specific card within the options, for anything else it needs the default device setting prior to loading the the app/game up.

Windows will have a default card set from the two. All applications will then use the default card unless told to specifically use the other card. It will all depend on the application and wether you can manually choose the output card.

set the default to yer realtek - load firefox and start up iplayer - switch to xfi as default then load game. Simples!

Doing that is useless - it will stop the audio, you will need to reload the application to get it working again, even if you change it back to original default playback device.

Well its what i do but whatever..

*edit*

Well it runtime errors firefox with iplayer, but youtube and others i use are just fine with it. blame DRM i spose :?

Foobar lets you choose the output device, so you may be able to do what you want through that.

I was playing music through foobar into my USB headphones (separate device in audio centre) as well as playing a game coming through my main speakers via my sound card
