Windows 10 FAQ

Your not ment to boot from it.. Just run it inside windows and update.. Once windows reboots remove the disk or it will boot from it (you dont need it the rest of the way)

Should not ask you for a product key this way.

You could try restarting a few times.. @gravy had that key blocked problem 8 restarts later and it cleared. But it might not as it might have locked to your first machine. Try it and let us know? haha

Ok, I have windows 8.1 box which started as windows 7 retail, had a cheap upgrade from MS to 8 and the offer for media center which had another product key.

Trying to update from the iso seems to prompt for a key with no option to skip ... and the keys I have don't seem to work (I did previous reserve the upgrade n the system and am just trying to shirtcut it ...

Make sure its not booting from the ISO (if you put it on a USB or Disk) when the computer restarts. When it restarts pull them out you dont need them after that. Otherwise it will boot from them and start a different process rather than continuing what it was doing. This way you should not need a product key.

Once its activated once you can do whatever you like regarding complete re installs. I personally only leave one drive connected when installing the operating system to ensure that the boot records and everything else can only go on that drive :)

I've tried just about everything and cannot get Cortana to work, All I get is this setting restricted due to your region. I live in the UK have every think that I can think of set to he UK but it still doesn't work, installed all the packs I can find relating to the UK. Even tried setting to the USA but nothing, so any help greatly appreciated.

Can you provide screenshots of;

why she wont activate

Quick question guys, my laptop has already upgraded but my main machine has a 128Gb SSD so I have symlinked C:\Users to D:\Users on my storage drive so that I have space for all my Music, Photos etc. Is this going to stop the upgrade and if so what do I do about it?

It should be fine. You might have to do the link again after upgrading. Many people have their files on another drive.

Another way to disable lock screen:

Nothing Danny

Go to desktop create new folder name it

GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

Open folder its under administrative tasks at the top.

the mega link for W10 pro 64 bit doesn't work, it downloads to 99% then states a decryption error and then if you re start the download it starts over and displays the same error.

didn't try the other 3 links, I was using google chrome

Hmm ill check it now :)

ty Danny :)

the download tool isn't working for me otherwise I would do that, took 10 hours to download the ISO then at the end it disappeared and no iso saved, so annoying!

they worked fine when I was running W7 lol 32 bit version of the tool errors and its a empty box with no message in it

Its working fine for me, just finished downloading and its checksum matches the one i uploaded.

Can you try a different browser or something like that. Failing that i will upload them somewhere else too (not sure where though).
