Windows 10? Why?

Eh? most of my complaints with 10 have been about the updates system which has been hitting the news every few days lately in a negative light.

It's really hard not to chuckle at the same certain users that want to cover old ground that has a beef with Windows 7. I still cannot understand this attachment some people hold.

Is it a beef with 7? I dunno. I just assume they are people that are locked into the mentality of newer = better or bigger number = better.

Well I've read many posts for one example Elevon wants Windows 7 to die from years ago and certain people seem to get so much glee for Windows 7 support ending for those next year.

Then I've seen AthlonXP's beef with your discussions and Windows 7.

My last two posts I did not mention Win7, however yes Win7 should die, it has had good run, sooner or later they all die, those that also say "latest is greatest", well I disagree there, no greatest in my opinion, they all have issues and no perfect OS.

I do have my favourites on Linux and yes I do miss DOS 6.22 many decades ago, but you have to move with the times as they say, sooner or later 10 will die and we will move on to something newer different which I have no issues with, been doing that since before Amiga days, so to me they are all temporary and unlike some of you 7 owners I don't get too attached to the OS where I refuse to use nothing else, I adapt and move forward even when the OS is not perfect, something I have been doing since Amiga days.

Again for the last time only issue I have with Microsoft with regards to 10 is they need to spend more time on testing with updates rather then quantity over quality. Having said that I have had no major issues with 10, stable and runs my software, games fine even with overclocked CPU/video card, just like all my previous Windows Operating systems before 10, so to me it just follows the same old OS pattern.

I'm never really quite sure where some of these people come from perspective wise. I have noticed some posters are quite gleeful including Elevon about the fact that Windows 7 is coming upto the end of life for support.

Personally I have more devices, somewhat from force of circumstance, on Windows 10 than 7 but anything I actually want to reliably use is firmly on Windows 7 and short of a monumental shift in mentality from Microsoft will remain that way as long as possible.

I find it truly staggering the way some people think from past discussions on why this came to be. How some people read and interpret what they want to see and think.

I've said this before in so many different ways, I'm not attached to Windows 7. It works well, there is no faffing about and being a guinea pig Windows Update tester. I have Windows 10 Pro on the other SSD, I boot into from time to time, also use it on the other PC and also use it on the laptop but at the end of the day I just prefer the feel of Aero. It simply feels nicer than the flat dull boring look of Windows 10. This isn't about getting attached. It's simply about liking the feel of Aero plus best of all, no faffing about with external tools to control what you want to do with your OS install or when and what you want to do with it.
Granted Windows 10 feels just as solid as Windows 7, that was never an issue.

Yes, things are done to defer Windows Update on 10 and/or using 3rd party tools for more control. That's really the only thing that bugged me with Windows 10. Still cannot believe I'm having to type this all out again.

Besides, if I'm going to use Windows 7, I may as well until the day it dies from support. After all, it's no hardship to boot into the Windows 10 SSD that day that happens and scrub the Windows 7 SSD. So it'll be there until 2020 sometime at least. After all, Apex Legends is compatible for Windows 7.

I keep telling you guys this as always , send your constructive feedback to Microsoft, do not keep bitching same old tune in the forums about 10, yes I can understand changes things you like and dislike etc, but end of the day only Microsoft can change things if you keep hammering at them and not us, they might have made their minds up already on Win10 changes/layout, ie 10 is not going to change regardless, so you will have to make a choice ie dual boot, use Linux etc...

Microsoft do seem set in their mind set on future of Win10 and their OS.
As to Aero, well to be honest that is not really important, 7 looks dated to me even in looks, maybe to you it does not but personally WMC would be more welcome in my case on 10 then Aero IMHO, but each to their own as they say. End of the day some things you have to let go ie Aero in your case (WMC in my case), you can't expect same old stuff in every Windows, this is fact and history with Microsoft, they are well known for dropping things in their next OS and have been doing so for many years.

Considering you're the same guy that keeps digging up this topic. I have sent feedback to Microsoft since the release of Windows 10 in 2012, hasn't changed anything. As has people been complaining about it on the Microsoft forums including developers. Which truly leads me to believe what I've stated before about you covering the same grounds and my last post. The signs of a Microsoft apologist.

Well I've used Windows since the days of 3.1 and for me W10 is one of the best OS Microsoft has ever released (and I've used every iteration) it's intuitive and stable and 'just works'. I also have a Mac and have used OS X for over a decade and even now when I compare it to Windows, I still struggle to understand the attraction.

Still it would be a dull world if we all liked the same things.

Feedback does nothing unless it happens to be something MS wants to see - hence updates with critical issues were released despite people reporting them in feedback leading to the supposed "priority" changed to the feedback hub which again did nothing as again updates for 1809 were released with critical issues that were reported. While a lot of complaints/suggestions that should be used to shape the OS are posted on the official community forum but the developers just do the equivalent of putting their hands over their ears and hide behind some BS about them not being monitored or something despite some of the community moderators even realising how silly it has got.

I find that funny you calling me a "Microsoft apologist" when I'm more of a Linux fan and only use Microsoft OS for gaming so goes to show how much you know.

Your statement is much more constructive then VF ever posts, yes I agree Microsoft are ignoring their consumers, unfortunately not much you can do apart from keep telling them, nobody here has a quick fix for the stubbornness of Microsoft and I'm no fan of the way they treat the average consumer, probably why I have given up on them years ago to change things, personally I have no faith in them.

I just wish Linux was much stronger and could challenge Microsoft on an equal footing in all areas, sadly it's not the case.

Are MS any different to most other companies in this regard? Example - Youview took the decision (following Beta testers views) to completely revamp the UI on the Freeview platform around 2 years ago. At the time Beta testers flagged up quite a few anomalies with the system including the omission of features in the then current UI. Youview assured everyone 'they were listening'.

Well 2 years on Youview are still listening and those missing features and poor UI implementation? Yes you've guessed it, still missing and viewers are still saddled with a poor UI.

This reminds me very much of bodies such as the Post Office. When they decide they are considering closing some of their Post Office's they always go out to public consultation (they claim they are interested in the public's views). Most people realise these consultations are nothing more than PR exercises and the decision to close the offices has already been made.

In most cases though there are viable/good alternatives - for a wide range of usage beyond simple desktop stuff like web browsing and music you are pretty much stuck with Windows.

Half of the programs I use on an everyday basis have never even heard of Linux, don't work or only work with a lot of limitations if you try to use something like WINE and likewise either don't have a native alternative or the Linux version/alternative is missing a lot of features or a significantly less well designed program, etc. (somewhat ironically - some of them like level editing tools for a game I mod actually started life on Linux but have been significantly superseded in advances on the Windows version).

You could always try MacOS? Pretty decent selection of Windows alternatives. Personally speaking I'm a very happy Windows 10 user and a happy MacOS user. There again the world of games etc. is a total mystery to me, only ever tried to play one once and immediatley came to the conclusion this wasn't for me. For your average computer user like myself I don't think you can go wrong with operationg systems in 2019.

They may not be perfect but then what is.

Same story really plus I do a lot of gaming.

Amongst other things I have an Oscilloscope that interfaces with a PC that the (full) drivers only exist for Windows (another one funnily enough that started life on Linux but only the Windows version of the software is fully functioned).
