Windows 11 Workaround Not Working (Solved Successfully)

you can just get win 10 enterprise edition and the 2021 edition will be supported till 2032. keys are about £14

That would be the LTSC, and only the IoT version.

Only Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021 (version 21H2) will have support until 2032-01-13.

I had a look at the LTSC edition for W11 and there were ways to convert the IoT to regular Enterprise. Can be same be done for W10?

I tried it back in the day when it was called LTSB and couldn't get GPU drivers to install. There may have been workarounds with .inf hacks, but I didn't have time to look in to them.

yeah there is 2 versions the 2019 and 2021 both will have support after win 10 support ends.2021 support is till 2032. its not hard to install. there are a few ways to install w11 on older stuff. just gotta look on youtube or online how to do it.

First attempt to install started okay but after reaching the first "Restart in a few moments" just hung there not doing anything. Eventually I had to back it out with the cancel button and come off.

Now having a second go, but so far running the executable from the USB drive has popped up a small box saying "Windows", a load of HD activity and not much else.

I just get the feeling this PC is not destined to be a Win 11 machine!

Slight problem there is no Windows setup USB. Original install was OEM Windows 7 when I bought the box in 2013, subsequently updated to Windows 10. The original Win 7 DVD provided by the vendor has vanished at some point.
Are you doing a fresh install or a upgrade?

You may have a problem upgrading to W11 as your original install was W7 and MS stopped the free upgrade.

What version of Windows was on the laptop you upgraded?

As others have said, you may be better just sticking to W10. (Your W11 will be the dreaded 24H2 version :p.)

Well all the above is now superceded as on the second attempt it worked. Total install time around 100 minutes.

So thanks to all for the help and advice getting me through this.

Plan now is to chuck in a new GPU (possibly PSU as well) and get another couple of years out of this old potato.

100 mins including creating an account, installing drivers and applications?

None of my apps got touched, luckily though I had to breathe on Edge to get the MSN feed back as the start page (not for me, the missus!) and Steam took a couple of goes to get running. But all seems to be good now.
