windows 7 backup ?

hi

can anyone tell me if windows 7 has software to do a complete system backup of the pc and operating system to dvds or another hardrive?

Yes it does. And rather good it is too as you can do incremental backups and mount backups as virtual drives and so on.

thats good then , what type of dvds should i use as i would like to put my complete system backup onto dvds , would any dvd-r be ok?

I would think so...

But I would rather put the backup onto a HDD, do you not have (another) (external) HDD?

Also note, the achilles heel of Win 7 backup is that it can only restore that backup to a HDD of the same size or bigger, it will not restore to a smaller sized HDD...

DVD is tedious, takes a long time to do, not much space on them, it's not something you'd want to be doing often, whereas an external HDD is a lot easier

External HDD all the way - With DVDs you would have to split up your image across disks and it only takes one scratch to wreck your image!

thanks will get myself a portable hardrive , although i do you a have spare internal hd that i dont use ,or would it be best to have the backup external?

A backup is best kept disconnected, preferably off site.
