Windows 7 beta - 9th January

So that's 8pm for us. Now we just wait for the onslaught.

If its anything like their other beta programs, you will have to sign into the website with your live ID, and then be given a page with your CD Key, and a link to the 32 and 64 bit downloads. All you need is the Key, the file will be all over the internet within minutes, at probubly much faster speeds than direct DL from MS.

Makes sense, thanks for that. So I can just nab the key and bugger off to the pub?

The file is already over the net,

most people will just want the keys

Vista and 7 will share many things (they already share the internal core of the OS anyway like how Win2k was WinXP under the shell). If the price for 7 is less than £100 then I'd say it's a worthy upgrade for the slight increase in boot time, network transfer times and disk transfers IF you already have Vista64. Otherwise...no.

After trying it out last night, I think I'll most probably upgrade from XP to 7.

Just need to beta key now.

:p in all honesty. i think everyone on this forum (who wants windows 7) will be able to get one. if not, nab a couple and share them round i guess.

Agreed. 2.5 million sounds like a massively big number - at worst, I expect it means that they expect to run out of keys in a week or a few weeks / months.

bledd. - if you're online tonight can you grab an extra one for me if I don't make it? I have to be out at 830pm.

Most of the major changes have been with the core code of the system to improve performance, so this isnt sstrictly true. Yes, is based on the same core, but the difference is waaaaaaay more than just a graphical update. Unfortunately this is what most people have grabbed onto and are seeing it as just a new theme for Vista.

Fact is, it runs on my 1GB RAM VBox, something Vista never did, so there got to be improvements there striaght away.

Indeed. i expect them to all be gone over the weekend to be honest..but, everyone who wants windows 7 on here is watching the website like hawks :p so i think we'll all get one anyhoo.

same here. i ran it on vmware fusion on the mac with only 512mb of ram and it ran excellently. compared to vista anyway, which i think struggled with 1gb of ram :p
