Windows 7: Changes listed since beta for the RC

Thanks for the article.

There's obviously some good enhancements in Windows 7, but I still feel that the common user is not seeing radical differences from the functionality portrayed in Vista. I'm sure I'm opening myself to criticism here, but I don't mean to offend anyone. I'd happily accept anyone trying to convince me otherwise!

I'm clearly a cynic, but my feeling is that Vista has failed to capture the market as Microsoft had hoped, hence the need to market a new OS more quickly that what has been the case in the last decade.

i know what you mean mate, it looks and feels like vista, but you can also feel it's better or will be better, i think if they had moved away from the look and style of vista it would have been an admission of guilt that vista was kak, so MS would not do that now :D

Thank god for the window key + e shortcut, it's one of my most used shortcuts and put me off windows 7 a lot.
Might be silly for something so small but it was a pet hate thing.

They've just returned to their old release cycle, the switch between XP & Vista has been the longest in the windows development.

Been using W7 since the beta release as my main OS & can't wait for the full release, it is truely a nice & stable OS.

The thing that does my head are the people who a. bash Vista something rotten and b. think Windows 7 is the best thing since sliced bread. You don't see it so much on here but on other sites its rampant.

These guys have been using XP and have decided to try out the Windows 7 beta and discovered it's actually quite good, "oh it's so stable", "it's so fast" etc. Well, newsflash guys, some of us have been enjoying this with Vista SP1 for ages.

The reality is Windows 7 is standing on the shoulders of Vista, and unfortunately it looks like Vista is going to be unfairly consigned to history as another Windows ME.

agreeded...

since i sp1 vista it has been rock solid, no spyware no virus's the crashes have been few and far between. been rock solid for a good 12 months on a overclocked toasty shuttle system... not xp was not like that for me

one thing i really want them to add..

make indexing filetypes easier to customize, currently almost all filetypes are ticked, there should be an option to at least 'untick all' in that screen.

all i want indexed is videos, shortcuts and maybe mp3

I have been using the beta now for 1 month, and so far its mixed reviews. In terms of usability, it is better. Gaming is faster. However it crashes randomly, and IE is still rubbish, locking up on every 3 websites!

Thank God for that! I've been looking for ages to see if the default behaviour of Win+E could be changed back to open My Computer, good to see MS have seen sense!

just get rid of flash player 10(go back to 9) and IE is fine no more crashes

I've recently stuck Win7 on the Dell I9400 and have been reasonably impressed, will probably look to pick up a copy when it's released.
However, I don't see massive performance differences between this and the previous install of Vista. Once Vista is updated and services tweaked then it's just as good as Win7 is currently.

I can't see myself moving the desktop to Win7 at all, Vista 64 is good enough at the moment and once we see SP2 I'm sure it'll be better still. :)

You make it sound like Vista struggles to work and chugs a long, barely allowing anything to be done.
Vista is a fast operating system if people actually set it up, it's good times all round.
Windows 7 is not some sort of miracle OS that boosts all your hardware.

Lol I hardly said that about vista....

Windows 7 is a lot better, maybe you haven't tried it to know that though?
