i dont completely agree with that. ive been using vista for as long as i could - vista drivers for my 800gtx where a shambles on release and took about a year to get up to speed from memory - and i an genuinely excited about windows 7.
Same here. I dont really see any point im moving to win7 on my current sys, cos its nice and fast, stable and runs everything perfectly even my x-fi card. PPl saying I should change cos its faster, but is win7 any diff then vista on performance wise, if you havd a good spec pc with loads of mem?
Theres 3 things ive notice about win7 that I dont like, and they are..
1 It automatically creates a 2nd partitpm on install
2 no classic startbar(yeah I know im still in the dark ages)
3 when windows are maximized you can still see though the window bar.
Why does nVidia's shoddy drivers make Vista a bad operating system? Surely you should be pointing the finger at nVidia not Vista?. The only reason manufacturers were slow to release Vista drivers was because of the hyped bad press surrounding it. Windows 7 is built upon Vista so this time around drivers should be much better from the start.
1) no it doesnt?
2) yes there is if you choose a classic theme
3) only the frames of the windows, which can be switched off.
i said i couldnt use vista because of the state of the gpu drivers. i never said that was microsofts fault lol
3. But you have to turn the glass look totally off?
1. It wont let you install win 7 unless it creates a 2nd partion cos I tried
2. thats ****, I only want the classic startmenu

It'll automatically create a small 200MB partition at the start of the HD, which isn't assigned a drive letter - this contains the boot files and certain recovery information. However, it *only* does this on a completely clean, unpartitioned disk - if you install Win 7 to a pre-existing partition (eg one that was previously used for Vista), it'll create a folder called "recovery" and use that instead. It didnt on the two machines i have it installed on![]()
It didnt on the two machines i have it installed onas far as turning glass off again, its the same as vista.
Lets all go back to 3.11![]()
On vista, a full screen window isnt glass, and a non full screen window is glass.
On win7, its glass nomatter if your viewing a window in full screen or not
I prefer the classic start menu... Surely theres a patch or something that will just let you just change the start menu to classic and not the entire windows theme???
^for what hardware
all my vista drivers have worked, some i had to extract first, then point at in device manager. others i had to tick 'vista compatibility' on the exe when running, like creatives
I tried it, it was just what I expected - crap.
My user experience between the os's
XP-> Vista
-Great folder browsing in explorer
-First time I've actually used the inbuilt 'music', 'pictures' folders, due to the new locations and customisability of them
-Nice to have the preview window when hovering over a taskbar item
Vista->7
-Libraries are a great long needed addition to Windows
-UAC barely noticable, and tweakable
-Awesome keyboard shortcuts
-Easier to work with by tiling windows quickly to the left/right side of screen
-Can now view previews in full screen for each window type.
--ie, if you have 5 explorer windows open, clicking on the single explorer group will give you the option of 5 previews to choose from
Productivity is improved from XP>Vista and more so ni Vista>7
Anyone shunning 7 clearly hasn't used it as their main OS to actually 'do' things on the machine.
After using Vista, I would still go back to XP without missing too many features.
After using 7 however, I've not even booted my XP64 partition once (or the Vista one)
I'll be buying 7 on release
