windows 7 new build

AFAIK only build 7000 has been officially released from MS, you'll have to look at other places for newer builds, but them sites can't be linked to on here.

Because no one knows when exactly it will be out, and are quite happy to try each new build to see what has changed????

Seriously, that question is on a similar par to "why is the sky blue?", "why do farts smell?" and "why silly people ask silly questions?".

between builds there won't be much changed anyway/ It's not a silly question it's calld patients.

Windows 7 Build 7068 (86 x 64)

Some bits from other forums

- The login wallpaper in 7057 is the background of the setup
- Faster installation
- Desktop.ini is fixed
- WMP no longer displays the thumbnail upside down in Now Playing mode
- IE8 final is included
- I've noticed that when you want to bridge a connection, when you highlight both of the connections, it now says "Bridge Connections". It also is much faster to bridge connections

Oh that's just some of the stuff that i noticed, it's definitely worth the install, trust me

I took the chance and upgraded my x86 from 7057 to 7068 and am very pleased that I did. Everything seems to be running flawlessly so far...only thing I noticed is that it didn't install any new wallpapers or themes as in the screenshots. I can definitely live with that though

I think you mean it's called patience. :p </grammar Nazi> Joking aside though, how can you say that? Compare build 7000 to 7068 and they're worlds apart. Artwork, icons, loading speed, IE version, tweaks, drivers... So many things it's almost silly to try to list them. Welcome to beta testing, albeit unofficially. :D

EDIT: By that I mean I'm a legit registered beta tester, but running a leaked build atm.

I only downloaded the 7048 build a few days ago, can I install that on my new build PC and then upgrade to the 7068 build via Windows update?

No. Windows Update doesn't offer these builds, they're leaked not official. The only official build atm is the original build 7000. Anything after that and you're on your own.

To upgrade you can either download the ISO, mount it inside the current build (ie with PowerISO, Demon Tools etc) and then run setup.exe, or else just burn it to DVD, reboot and run the upgrade that way. The first option obviously is less wasteful (and faster).

Since you don't have an existing install though, just burn 7068 to DVD and do a clean install. Installing 7048 then upgrading is just hassle you don't need compared to burning then clean-installing 7068.

True, wish I'd waited a few days now cos I've got another 3GB download now. On a serious note, I have 2 options with my new build that I'm about to order the parts for, install Windows 7 or install XP Home (which I'm assuming will activate using the key I've already got but perhaps that's a big assumption to make?) and then pay £40 for the Vista Ultimate 64 bit upgrade (my wife is an OU student so can get Vista via the ultimatesteal offer). If I went for the latter option presumably I could dual boot with Windows 7 anyway so perhaps it's the 'safer' option?
