windows 7 new build

Na, personally I'd just install Win7 and have done with it mate. Save your cash until the final Windows 7 goes gold and gets released. It's just as stable as Vista (arguably more-so), is faster, smoother and pretty much better in every way. Why pay for Vista now just because it's not beta, just to install the OS you really want as a dual boot, and end up paying again later in the year when it's released fully? ;)

Stick build 7068 on there and see how you go. Nothing to lose really.

Yeah I'll do that then, thanks for the advice mate. Is it right that the Beta will be usable until June 2010, wouldn't want it to stop working in August really and then be stuck with no usable OS. Suppose another option would be to install XP home (it's retail not OEM so there shouldn't be any issues doing that) and dual boot Windows 7. Can you have 32 bit XP dual booted with 64 bit Windows 7?

Cheers
Andy

Installed 7068 about half an hour ago, Everything seems to be smooth going so far. I had the Creative hiss/distortion on the 7057 build in the last week, Didn't occur straight away on that build so we'll see how it goes on this one.

To zAndy1 7068 is usable till 01/03/2010 23:59 so it says from Winver.

Welcome to Windows 7 Release Candidate (RC) testing. We’re on our way to Windows 7, and the RC is a great opportunity for IT professionals like you to take Windows 7 and begin testing it in your real environment. You get to see what’s coming, and we get to see if our changes and fixes from the Beta testing are working correctly. We want to encourage you to install and actively test the RC code. This will help us ensure Windows 7 is the best possible release, and help you get ready for Windows 7 deployment.

Here’s what you need to know:

This is pre-release software, so please read the following to get an idea of the risks and key things you need to know before you try the RC.

You don’t need to rush to get Windows 7 RC. The RC release will be available at least through June 2009 and we’re not limiting the number of product keys, so you have plenty of time.

Watch the calendar. Windows 7 RC will expire on June 1, 2010. So if you install the RC release you’ll either need to upgrade to the final version of Windows 7 before that date, or install a prior version of Windows. (For more about installing Windows, see installation instructions.

Protect your PC and data . Be sure to back up your data and please don’t test Windows 7 RC on your primary home or business PC.

Technical details/updates: before installing the RC please read the Release Notes, and Things to Know for important information about the release.

Keep up with the news. You can keep up with general technical information and news by following the Springboard Series blog or Windows team blog. Want technical guidance, tips, and tools? Thanks for that, I'll just install that then on my new build, no point doing anything else really. So come 1/3/2010 what are the options then? I assume a clean install of the retail version will be needed to carry on using it?

EDIT: Well the post above answers my question... sounds good to me

Downloading the 7068 release atm. The key from the Beta can be used to activate.

Same here. :)

EDIT: What about all your stuff you got installed on the 7000 build, i.e games etc..., when you do the upgrade to this will they still all be intact.

EDIT2: Thats cool, it tells you what won't work so you can uninstall those first.

EDIT3: Upgrade went fine and dandy. :D

If i applied for a key previously does this mean i can download it, or will i have to get another key?

Na, you can use the same key throughout. Just a bit of advice though; I personally never activate straight away. The rearm command can make a Windows install last for about 120 days, legitimately, so there's no rush.

Although beta keys seem to have much more 'leeway' than standard keys I don't see the point in rushing in. For example I found build 7057 to be far more unreliable than previous (or later) builds, and ended up hosing it after a few days. By having not activated it I 'saved' an activation and am now running builds 7048 x64 and 7068 x86. Just an idea.

I doubt theres a limit on the activations for the beta keys as its intended to expire in the future.

Most users wont know how to rearm windows.

Any chance of software becoming incompatible between these builds? e.g. software that worked in 7000 does not now in 7068?

Planning to try Win7 and will use standard apps like Firefox, Live Messenger, Skype, Steam, uTorrent etc

I've gone from build 7000 to every build leaked so far and no problems with any software as of yet

I've currently got build 7000.

Im reinstalling onto a Mac Pro later this week so is it worth me getting the latest build or is 7000 pretty close to it anyway?

64 bit version here btw

Cheers
