Toying with the idea of sticking Windows 7 onto my netbook, however it's only got 1gig of ram so will it run like a dog or be ok?

I installed this on my mate Acer Apsire One with 1GB RAM, and it runs completely fine.

I do suggest upgrading to 2GB if possible though :).

Got it on my NC10 before I stuck 2Gb RAM in it. The difference is noticeable, but that's not to say it was unusable with 1Gb in it.

Might give it a go, if it's bad will just upgrade to 2 gig :)

Will take an image of the machine as it is now though as I've got everything setup perfectly so if I have to put XP back on I won't have to do it all again!

Ev0,

Many netbook users have truly been blown away by their Windows 7 experience! I would encourage you to give it a whirl! For more information, Microsoft does have a site with whitepapers, tutorials, walkthroughs and screen casts on all the “under the hood” features in Win 7. Check out the Springboard site for Windows 7 on TechNet here http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/dd361745.aspx

So is Windows 7 shaping up to be faster than Vista even tho it's not even finished yet? I may have to give it a whirl as I tried Vista on mine and it was so much slower than XP it was unbelievable...

Yeah I've been looking at that stuff at work lately anyway, but still toying with the idea of using it at home on the netbook. Got the iso from technet the othe day so not sure if that's the latest and greatest version.

And remember everyone I'm only running 1gig, 2 gig isn't really an option yet (I know it's only cheap but I don't want to have to fork out more cash if I don' thave to :) )

Are things that bad!! 1gig extra ram will probably cost you a max of £15!! You could probably get a stick for a tenner!

lol no but that's part of my dilemma, xp is doing everything as I want it to now and tbh it flies along :p

And I'd need a 2 gig stick anyway so that's at least £20 :)

And it's just hassle, by the time you add on the postage, then the delivery person turns up when I'm at work and either takes it back to the depot for me to take an annoying detour going home or worse they leave it with the god awful dhl@home woman round here. Moodiest woman ever :)

Plus just spent out on a NAS enclosure and 2 1.5TB drives to go in it.

heh i always say on the delivery instructions to leave stuff thats low value round the back, they never do :(
