Hey guys,

Im going to be doing a new build soon and ive always loved windows 7. A lot of people disliked windows 8 when it first came out but it seems to be pretty good. would you guys suggest w7 or w8 for a new gaming build?

Thanks

Jono

8, but if you do a search on this forum there are loads of pre-existing threads.

Cool cheers will check them out

Try the Windows 8.1 beta. I'm using it on my main system, but it takes some getting used to.

does the 8.1 bring back the start menu? i heard a rumour that they were bringing it back (or maybe they have already lol)

I quite enjoy Windows 8 myself. It's a bit different from Windows 7 but after you used it for a few hours it's not that difficult to use as some people make it out to be.

Yep, a lot of people dont like change, i think the reason why most people were put off is cause it looks like they just focused on the touchscreen aspected but oh well

I have W8 on the way for my new (re)build. I won't be 'touchscreening' at all.

The good reviews I have read say that the core of the OS is VERY good. It'll take a while to get the hang of it, but then it took a while to get the hang of a PVR after VCR's didn't it?

The core of the OS seems good if a little step backwards in some regards (in as far as hiding away or locking out some of the more advanced options). The problem is the frontend which will be very much subject to taste.

Its not necessarily a case of getting used to it, some people won't care either way, for others it will work better for them but very validly there are people whose approach to the OS makes it more of a chore with Windows 8 and less of a chore with Windows 7.

But even for those users, surely installing a third party modification is better than buying into an old OS.

Thanks for all the comments guys, looks like il try w8. If worse comes to worse i already have a w7 license i can stick on if i dont like it

Also pretty much same UI as Win95 as well, that's 18 years of samething, change was long overdue IMHO.

Cars have been using a steering wheel for 100 years, so I guess change is long overdue? No, wait, I haven't seen all new Mercedes or Fords with joysticks, so I guess change for the sake of it is just for Windows then
