Is there any quick fix for this? everything on the internet doesn't seem to be working

Windows is fully activated, time is right, SP1 is installed, but windows updates is stuck and wont download anything, which is stopping an installation of a safe application.

Tried ccleaner, windows update troubleshooter, the lot

Dont tell me I have to rebuild windows :(

Cool will try that

the error it was getting is

Windows update error 0x80070005(2016-06-06-T10_35_11A) (Not fixed) in troubleshooter

Will try SP1 re-install

Already tried that link you supplied, just gets stuck on seatching for updates, will let you know how the SP1 re-install goes.

Would rather not have to rebuild the box

When I tested it, I had a proper SP1 ISO rather than installing SP1 on the original windows 7. I wouldn't have thought it would make a difference but it must do??

You may just have to wait it out. Others have had loads of issues recently and they've had to leave windows update running for a day or 2... :p

edit: If you check task manager while windows update is running and you can see svchost.exe using loads of CPU... that means it's working. Just very slowly. :D

edit2: Actually, since you're getting errors, this is different to the issues everyone else is having. For them it appears to be working with nothing happening rather than stopping. I guess there could be new issues recently or something else is broken.

edit3: I just booted up my already updated windows 7 virtual machine and it was able to check for updates so that does at least mean windows update is "UP".

When I deployed the two workstations, it had SP1 installed, one machine woudnt get updates, was just erroring, the other machine had CPU memory Usage seriously high but windows updates show no signs of doing anything

svchost (netsrvs) or something was hammering the memory and CPU.

Its going through the SP1 re-install now so will see how it goes :) thanks so much for assistance, just had no luck with any other fixes online

Seems to be downloading some updates now after SP1 re-install :) will see how it goes before I count my chickens

I have this on one of my machines and it is a total pain. Did you resolve it?

The quick fix is Windows 10, as MS want you on that now, so they are buggering up Windows 7 updates, to try to force you to switch, but if you don't want to yet, don't give in. :D

I think it's just a case of leaving updates running.

I left mine and although 'searching for updates' was doing just that, when I came to shut the pc down there were updates ready to be installed.

Nope, Windows 10 is not an option atm so I have had to stick with Windows 7, is this Windows then literally forcing people to update?

Set it off to search for updates but it literally does nothing, I dont really have hours/days to waste

I'm stuck using Win 7 for our systems here as 10 is just too much of an arse to configure for our uses. I'm gonna try an up to date slipstreamed copy and go from there :)

Why is microsoft such a pain at times :(

Its causing an issue with other applications which needs to go on

Dont know weather to leave it running and hope that it finds updates and not stay on "searching for updates" or try something else.

Its not in the same physical location as where I am, so only have remote access

Going to cut my losses and rebuild one of them to see if it resolves.

Huge disappointment in windows at this time, as its not the first time iv had to rebuild a box because of it

Last time I had this is I saw a suggestion to manually install IE11, then the update in post #2.

It worked for me although this was on a KVM VM installed from an iso with SP1.

If it's not too late give it a shot.

I had to rebuild the windows update catalog. http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...-remains/ff3c442e-79a6-40d3-ac35-29e130cebef1

net stop wuauserv
net stop cryptSvc
net stop bits
net stop msiserver
ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 catroot2.old
net start wuauserv
net start cryptSvc
net start bits
net start msiserver
pause
Exit

Type services in the text box above the start globe. Find each of the following and ensure they are set to automatic: Background Intelligent Transfer services, Cryptographic, Windows Installer, Windows Update. Double click on each item and choose automatic.
Now re-start Windows Update. Do NOT restart Windows. Be very, very patient, it will likely take a long time.
If that does not produce results, you should download and run the following. It takes a very long time to run as well.
