I was just looking at ultimate steel UK; it allows me to buy Windows 7 professional upgrade at the price of £30. Can this be used for a clean install?

there are work arounds but you are verging on illegal when you do these . I was looking into the same things about a week ago but i think i will just grit my teeth and pay for the preinstalled one from OCUK

My college doesn't do the MSDNAA account, unfortunately. I may try Windows Server 2008 R2, because I can download that for free from microsoft dreamspark.

Thanks for the help guys.

In what possible way is it "verging on illegal"? If you're a student, you get those licences for free. As long as you're using them whilst you're a student and you're not giving them away, there's nothing illegal about it. Changing some settings in Windows Server 2008 R2 is also not illegal.

I think he means buying an upgrade copy and fudging it so you don't need to run through the upgrade path is the illegal part, not purchasing through Dreamspark
