Hi all

I have a Crucial C300 SSD which has Windows 7 installed on it. My issue is that even with this speedy drive, Windows takes ages to load. It's the black screen with the Windows logo that takes the longest; it sits there for about 30 seconds doing nothing, with no HDD activity, before it eventually kicks into life and finishes booting up.

Has anyone got any idea what could be causing this perioud of inactivity while booting, and how to fix it (short of a full reinstallation, which I would like to avoid)?

Many thanks

Michael.

You definitely got something dodgy going on there, my PC with Intel SSD doesn't even get to finish the Windows animation, staying on that screen for I'd say less than 5 seconds.

Run a full Windows Update (several times to make sure you get everything) and also check and update (maybe even reinstall) all drivers including motherboard, networking, graphics and ssd drivers. Remove any USB memory sticks or drives during boot if you have any.

did you install your current windows from fresh ?

how long ago ?

or did you make an image of your old windows and copy it to your new SSD ??

has it always been slow or just started to go slow recently ?

It's been slow for a while now, I just haven't been bothered to do anything about it, but it was lightning quick when I first installed the OS.

I've just now removed the Intel AHCI driver and rebooted, and it's loaded up really quickly without the trademark hanging on the Windows logo that I've got used to!

I don't think I have the Intel AHCI driver and never had an issue with speed. Therefore the MS driver is more than capable.

I was also going to suggest checking what services/start up entries you have as something lurking or just broken could be slowing things down.
