Windows 7 This Year?

If it follows Microsoft's usual pricing strategy - not really any more expensive than Vista is now.
(Note: This is actually one reason why Microsoft couldn't be classed as "not being a Monopoly". A company holding a monopoly will increase their prices year in, year out as there is no competition there. Windows has stayed at "relatively" the same price since Win98).

Vista SP2 is coming in April-June and Windows 7 RC coming this year but W7 final release wont be in 2009 -- i still think it will be 2010 or later as Microsoft take it time to development some more features also they didnt say when as they keep thier lip seal until they spill the bean... dont think W7 coming this year it far too soon. Need some more work for W7 x86 and x64 before it all done to make sure it work everything included support hardwares without hiccup.

Have you just learnt English, or do you put this through a translator? I can't help but notice your posts make little sense!

It will almost certainly be before Christmas 2009 (if only to boost sales!). Microsoft have only said nothing because they don't want a major problem to hit, them be delayed and then hounded for missing deadlines. It's managing expectations.

There are no new features to be added. Beta is feature complete. RC is exactly what it says on the tin. Release Candidate. That means if there are no showstopping bugs found in this release, we will release it. They're not going to take months after May 'add features' to it!

Am I completely wrong in thinking that MS will give reduced upgrade fees from Vista to Win 7? I.e Vista Ultimate -> 7 Ultimate (or whatever) and you only pay a small amount?

Cheers, looks like I should start putting some pennies away every week then to save up, or better yet sell a load of stuff I don't need. The latter is more do-able me thinks.

Almost certainly.
It will depend on what upgrade paths Microsoft make available.
What we may see is an "equiv upgrade".
So Vista Ultimate to 7 Ultimate, Vista Home Premium to 7 Home Premium that kind of thing.
The retail upgrades are certainly worth it - as long as you're upgrading from retail you retain your "free to roam" license and get the OS at a knocked down price.

Look on an auction site, vista can be had as little as £40 for the HP version and then when w7 released you can buy the upgrade version. Tis what I did.

just wait and see if it come up or not - you have to wait until MS ready to release... they didnt say when so just have to wait, MS already moved Vista SP2 from Q1 2009 to Q2 2009 that a wee bit delayed so that may happen to W7 - keep watch for latest news.

Microsoft lost out big time by missing the Holiday season with the release of Vista, and the 'upgrades' they gave away with PCs bought before release must have cost a lot, so they cant really afford to do this again. I think Microsoft will be doing everything in their power to get 7 out to the public by October/November of 2009.

So you've bought a copy of Vista that is only licensed to be used on an HP machine.
An "Upgrade" simply upgrades your current license to include the use of Windows 7.
So you're Windows 7 license will also be an "HP Version".

If you're going to spend money on Windows then you might as well get legal surely.

Of course, this could all be wrong and HP may not stand for Hewlett Packard, but Home Premium.

I have Vista Ultimate 32 bit, will windows 7 be just a 64 bit os and if so would I be able to upgrade from 32 oem to win 7 64 bit? i do not know much about the working of windows os, NOOB lol..

Windows 7 will be 32 and 64 bits but think it may the last one for 32bits and next Windows may not include 32bits as MS decided to move to 64bits only i read some news few month ago.

No, HP means home premium. it is a full legal retail version. All though I paid £100. But have tracked many copies for my htpc before deciding just to chuck windows 7 beta on. In the last few months there have been 10's of copies that have sold for 40-50 and even ultimate I have seen go for as little as £60.
