Hi, I'm trying to fix my brother's laptop, well sort of, lol. The problem is that you the wireless network I try to connect it to it won't connect, you get the standard can not connect to network, I've tried diagnosing, and some other things, problem is my bro is one of three flatmates (students) and both the others are connected and using it fine and will be would be disconnected if I turn off router, (the router is a white netgear adsl router) sorry I can't explain in more detail, I'm an it technician and even baffled, problem is I'm not very good at windows 7, I'm an XP man.

Any advice and solutions greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks

Hi, some details, his laptop is an Acer Aspire 5741, and the router is a Netgear DG834Gv3.Maybe updating the fireware might fix it, but again could this affect his flatmates ability to connect to the router which they can already do fine.

Have you tried shutting everything down..and rebooting.

I have a Win7 Desktop and and Acer Laptop and the same ADSL router as you., and occasionaly the laptop cant connect, using the inbuilt 'fix the problem' diagnostics in windows never works, and i have to power down (turn off at mains) the router, desktop, reboot, then my laptop can connect...

Like i said it only happens very occasionaly, i think its something to do with the router not correctly assinging the IP address to my laptop when it tries to connect ....

Of course with with other people sharing the connection, its abit more awkward for you to close everything down.

Same issue here with a netgear adaptor on my main pc... think it must be a chipset imcompatibility through a recent update. Royal pain in the rear but it happens i guess,
