Hey all.
I have done a new install on my PC which is Windows 8.1

I installed from a disc and format the SSD I have and installed.
But.. I am getting a task bar freeze/hang after login.

But if I click on Google Chrome in my task bar it will open.
If I hover over to the right for the Search, Share and so on that is also frozen after login.

Everything else is fine just seems to be a freeze/hang for around 20-30 seconds after login.

I disabled Avast and GEFORGE on start-up to see if that was the problem and it's not.

EDIT: Also noticed when a game loads after I login to a game such as "Wildstar" the loading screen on the game will freeze for a couple of seconds.

This is the programs I have installed. Not sure if there's a lot more drivers to install?

Could this be driver problems?

Sorry for being such a newbie but PC's are confusing sometimes as I am kinda new to them.

Can you list your PC spec? If intel, have you installed the Intel chipset drivers? (INF package).

Have a look in device manager to see if anything has an exclamation mark on it.

I presume you have been using this system with an old install that was fine?

The intel INF is the most important driver to install (I always do this first). Followed by the GPU driver.

I presume your issue still remains?

Yeah. Still having a lot of problems.
Also noticed games are freezing on there loading screen for around 10 seconds and comes back to life. Guess that's a graphic driver problem also right?

Been having this problem for 2-3 days now I can't get my head around it.
Thanks.

Just to rule it out I would do a complete clean install of the nvidia drivers. What version are you using?

*sorry just spotted your using latest driver in your screenshot.

Guess I might have to take it to overclockers even though they'll keep it for a couple of days :(

I am sure some one will be along soon who can give you some more things to try.

Apart from the extreme of trying to reinstall windows and starting again I am all out of ideas :(!

P.S Have you made any hardware changes at all or tweaked the bios in anyway?

Nope except from turning of Intel HD graphics and turned off fast start-up.

Had the Intel HD graphics been installed in Windows before you disabled it?

Yeah I downloaded the wrong driver which installed Intel HD.
Thinking of re-doing a new install and working from there again and keep restarting my PC to see what install has done the damage etc.

I think that might be the problem maybe. Did you uninstall the driver before you disabled it in the bios?

I personally would just reinstall at this point. Something some where has got messed up and it sounds like the Intel on board might be the cause of it.

I disabled my Intel on board before I installed windows.

I'm actually new to installing Windows and so on.
I need someone to explain what I should do etc this is why I love this forum full of helpful people.

Oh and yesterday when I did a restart my desktop was frozed + the icons on the desktop had a black square around them like this..

The way I install windows now is from a USB memory stick using the Windows 7 USB/DVD download tool. This works with windows 8.1, but you need to download a windows 8.1 iso file from the microsoft website. Depending what version of windows you have, this might not allow you to download it so you will be stuck using the DVD (not a problem, but the USB is really fast to install, especially if you have an SSD drive).

Once windows is installed, I proceed to installing all of the drivers first before doing anything else. I have them to hand on a USB memory stick.

This is my preference to installing drivers:

Intel INF chipset drivers
GPU drivers
Network
Audio
Anything else

I always reboot after installing the Intel INF, and then again after the GPU drivers.

I have a Windows 8.1 disk. I'll re-install and do the following what you mentioned there see if anything happens. Thanks dude!

NP I hope it goes well. Make sure to install windows updates after you've installed all of your drivers too. Then just start installing applications as/how you like :)

Also just noticed my Windows 8.1 disc is not working for some reason normally when I put the disc in and restart my PC it comes up press and button to continue and sends me to the set-up etc it wont do it now for some reason?

It plays my music CD's just not my windows 8.1 disc for some reason is there any type of button I should be pressing when I restart my PC for the Windows 8.1 set-up/install to pop-up. Thanks
