Windows 8.1 Update 1 arriving on March 11

Why would you want a local account, there's obviously a few instances when you'll want a local account. But for 99% of the time live account is awesome, syncing settings between pcs/reinstall.

Still won't upgrade to Windows 8 :p In fact if Windows 9 is more of the same then my machine will remain Windows 7 for the foreseeable future.

Oh god it's going to be XP all over again.

A couple of nice changes I've made is disabling Skydrive and the pointless folder shortcuts in explorer. I do much prefer 8.1 to 7.

I've got 8.1 machines at work and really, apart from a few feature improvements I don't really see the benefit of paying to upgrade and then installing Classic Shell to get it back to looking and feeling like Win7 because let's face it, as much as people who have grown fond of the Windows 8 tiled interface, there are those of us who still prefer logical order via a start menu and it just works better for us.

Until games demand a new version of DirectX that isn't available to 7 I'll stick with 7. On an SSD I find it performs no different to Windows 8.

I personally like Win 8. I dont know why it gets so much stick.

I dont use the metro at all. It's fast and slick. Whats not to like.

I'm the same, been using it since the weekend and although you can tell it's definitely designed to be touch enabled and would be much better on a touch device than with a mouse I quite like it and I definitely can't understand my housemates complete hatred of it.

Same here, new/upgraded spec + 8.1 a couple of weeks ago. Yes i do have Classic Shell installed, but thats my preference. W8 is fast and clean. I like.

I think if 8/8.1 had the option to remove metro and maybe even add a 'real' start button via the 'Add and remove windows features' or better still as an option on install/setup it would mitigate a lot of hate.

So not this tuesday but the one afterwards and we should have win 8.1 update released?

Is classic start still the best one for windows 8 to get the start button back ?

Am still on windows 7 myself

Same here, tried metro and didn't like it.
Installed start 8 and haven't thought about metro since

No you don't,
Create new account > scroll to bottom (ignoring live account setup) > sign in without a Microsoft account.

Ignorance is the main reason for Windows 8 complaints I find. The Start menu is still the start menu albeit without the stupid tiny filetrees and all the advanced stuff found by right clicking start actually gets you to most of the advanced menus quicker than the old start.

Some of the tweaks look welcome though, I'm looking forward to them.
