Windows 8.1 update

25 updates available for me, 1.2GB mostly Office though I think.

Nothing earlier, I was uptodate.

I have just got the same five Windows updates appear on my Samsung laptop (Win8.1 Pro x64)as well ie ,

KB2922229
KB2939087
KB890830
KB2936068
KB2942844

So not the Win8.1 update 1 ones.

You mean the store icon?

Thought I'd bodged it, so un-installed and re-installed. Where the hell is my start menu???!!!

The start menu isn't in this update. It has no ETA.

Which is why I think MS have handled this poorly, the 8.1.1 update is absolutely pointless after what they've shown at build. So everyone's "building up" to this start bar update, only to be given a halfway house one.

And yes, the store icon in the task bar, that didn't happen pre update 1.

Totally useless too - why the hell would I want it or even use the damn thing!!!!

Ahh well....better to expect the unexpected!!! In this case, I totally expected MS to balls it up :D

This update puts a shutdown button right in the corner of the Start screen, boots to desktop automatically on predominantly non-touch devices, and gives mouse and keyboard users discoverable and familiar UI controls to manage their running programs.

These things have been complained about incessantly. Literally page after page, thread after thread of it. For years.

And suddenly it's an update not worth having?

lol, you sure? I don't have the shut-down button and you can set it to boot to desktop through the start menu properties.

Those features are going to be dependent on the individual computer configuration, but they are there. The shutdown button doesn't appear on tablet/slate computers for example.
