Windows 8 - 8.1 nicrosoft what were you thinking!

I do not think you will find most people buy their own, in my rather larger family I am the only one who has built a computer, others buy a pre-built as they do not care about being able to save a few quid if that for a basic machine and want one to just work.

Why are MS phones bad? MS do not make any phones, their make the OS, Nokia are the major manufacturer of them, granted WinPhone 7/7.8 were a bit dodgy Phone 8 is a brilliant OS, and if it was so crap why are so many companies swapping to them? Why is o2 now actively pushing the Windows Phone devices?

MS have only 3% of the mobile market android has 73%. That in it's self should tell you how bad the os\phone is.

Why is O2 pushing win mobile? you would have to ask them.

Well when I say "new code" there is still some old code there. You are right in that NT4 formed the basis for all OS's since (with the exception of the 9x line).
But there is very little of that NT4 code still left - mainly for compatibility reasons.
MS never scrap all existing code and literally start again - but they cycle between extensive re-writes followed by minor.
So although Vista is "hated" by many and 7 "adored" the two OS's share an awful lot of common code.

Thanks for clarifying that. :)

Windows Key > Start tying for app/setting you want > Hit enter

Quicker than navigating Start Menu > All Programs EVERY SINGLE TIME. Search for lesser used apps like this, pin commonly used apps to start bar.

Windows 8 is no slower to use than Windows 7 if you have the mental capacity to adjust your usage habits.

Errr...You've been able to press the windows key and type since Windows Vista. Yes, even on the start menu. ;)

So for an OS platform that has not been out for even a year yet, compared to Android which has been out for years, 3% is not a bad effort and now Nokia is getting into the swing of things that share will go up.

Of course Android has a large percentage as you pretty much get them free in a cereal box now days

Does that mean then the iPhone/iOS is bad as it has what 10% of the market share?

start button returned on 8.1, the new startscreen replaced the old start menu with startscreen you can pin what ever you want and with one click you can access what ever you want
you can pin control panel - computer - folders - sites - desktop apps - modern apps
its yours organize it the way you want. no way im going back to the old start menu

Don't go by my own opinion go by the stats. MS OS used to be ok years ago but just like nokia they lost their way.

I loved my Nokia 8210 then I paid £300 for their N6600 and just like HTC they went in the wrong direction.
MS have done the same but they have so much money they will just re-launch near x-mas.
