Windows 8 Adoption Poor

Yes, as I said I use it for half my tasks. As it is a far better environment for that stuff.
Games simply aren't destined for it yet, but they would work just fine in metro and no need for a desktop version.

We browser depends on formfactor, desktop ie10 is far better with mouse and keyboard, but pretty rubbish with touchscreen.

That leaves office stuff which will take time to get the software moved over and for some metro improvments to be out in.

Why won't you use an App Store? Scared you'll like it.
Tell me which is better netflix app or netflix website?
Audible app or audible desktop download?
Kindle desktop or kindle app?
So on and so forth for pretty much every single media consumption, the apps win 9.9 out of 10 times. And they're even free,

I tried to browse the App Store, the interface for that was so bad I gave up. A scattering of tiles strewn over the screen like on the Xbox. Great if you're on a tablet I'm sure, rubbish on a desktop.

How is it rubbish. It simply hasn't, you even spent two minutes learning the integrated UI, which applies to every single app, doesn't sound like it.
There is no way you can say the desktop version of any of those apps are even in the same league as the metro apps.

I haven't tried any of the apps you mention on either the desktop or metro so can't comment.

I did find the App Store to have a terrible way of presenting itself though, the whole screen filled with a smattering of tiles, slow menus, lots of side scrolling. Very tabletesque.

There is nothing wrong with tabletesqu/smartphone. They out weight conventional computers almost two to one. The menus are not slow.
The store is by no means perfect, it has some glaring issues, but it's not as bad as you say, especially just to find apps. Top right search, type it in, press enter. Done.

When downloading it does seem to have connection issues sometimes.
When updating it tells you nothing unlike iOS or android which have update logs.
There's not enough categories on the store.

So dispite not giving it any time and using anything, you dismissed it. Typical moaner. You may want to have a look through this and other threads, many many people where like you but stuck with it for a fortnight and did a total 180. Metro has its place and for certain tasks is night and day better, while desktop is still better for legacy stuff, which will unfortunately be slow to reprogram.

Indeed, nothing wrong until you have to use your computer with a keyboard and mouse like a tablet.
 I use it exclusively with those seeing as desktop nor laptop have them, guess what it's not an issue in the slightest. It works well with those inputs.

In fact I'm so use to it, I keep trying to use the mouse wheel to scroll sideways in open office.

I don't have a problem with the App Store, I don't need anything on it, I had a look at it out if curioustiy, I can ignore it, fine by me.

I can't however currently ignore metro and the UI, though fortunately that sounds like its going to change.

That was tongue in cheek dude, but it'd seem you're doing some moaning now.
where?

if MS really did drop metro, i'd simply either find a way to make it easier for me like i had to in previous os's or just won't upgrade.

but unlike you and some others, moan and saying you shouldn't have to use 3rd party software and find ways to make it easier......

i shouldn't have to use 3rd party software and find ways to make it easier in previous os's. but do u see me moaning about it, NO

after reading that site, it's most likely fake.

Does everyone want a PC that their Muns can use though? I know I don't. I don't need oversized buttons, app stores, gem bars etc. Just like I wouldn't buy the same phone as my Mum.

Nothing to do with oversized buttons or app stores. My mother has used Windows 3.11, NT4, XP, Windows 7 and Windows 8, and even she (the technophobe) seems more willing to give new things a fair shout than you.

I don't hear her moaning anywhere near as much as I see from your posts, and trust me, if she doesn't like something ... she WILL tell me :)

I do agree with you but it shows what a mess Microsoft is in.

Microsoft have tried "forcing" its existing massive installed base (Windows XP to 7) onto a UI they don't want (Windows 8) in order to hope they'll buy a (Microsoft taking years to catch up) Windows tablet/phone/overly expensive hybrid/ultrabook and give Microsoft relevance in this Post-PC (I really hate that Apple-coined phrase...) world they so severely need.

(I feel a bit like I'm shouting over a crowded bar, but here goes) :o

I don't disagree that not all pure desktop users want a touch optimized UI, but I can't accept the notion that Microsoft have forced this UI onto existing desktop users.

If they said to Windows 7 users, 'hey, surprise, SP2 is here and by the way we've retrofitted WinRT and replaced your start menu with a start screen' then YES absolutely I would be very sympathetic, because that is not the product you bought.

But, as it stands, the people who are running Windows 8 have either paid to upgrade their existing licenses or bought new PCs. People and corporations alike who want a pure desktop oriented OS are free to continue using Windows 7.

So, in that sense, there is definitely an element of selective outrage when it comes to the current choice available to PC users.

It isn't going anywhere. I can best guess that all it will be is a visual icon on the taskbar that'll then open the start screen. I can't see MS going back to the tiny little menu.

Whoever designed the Metro/Desktop user interface should be shot and also the person who signed it off and decided it was finished.

Its too disjointed and it could have been implemented so simply.

But clunky seems to be the choice they went with.

Will give it another shot once the service pack comes out but I see nothing in it at the moment worth installing it again for till that time.

I feel that you are right, however there was nothing wrong with that tiny little menu.

Give me the new search (in the Start Screen) in the search bar of the old Start Menu and I would be very happy.

I guess why ppl havent ugraded is

1. ppl usually try and avoid change in their routine, just look at the stink the new start page caused, when in reality it is nothing as drastic as some made it out to be.

2. most users would be fine using XP as most only browse internet, email, use word processor or store their photos/music on their pc. So there is no need for them to upgrade

3. most ppl only upgrade their os when they buy a new desktop. Due to economic climate of last few years many just stayed with XP. And instead of needing a new pc they have been bullish on smart phones and tablets which are expensive in comparison.

Anyway I got win8 at launch for a too good to pass offer. It took less than a day to get used to it, and I am very happy with it so far.

My 2cents
