Hello all. Gotta rebuild my main PC and have a windows 8 licence. Was wondering if to make the switch. I have used 8 on my laptop for some time and see the speed boast. Just not sure about my main PC and gaming.

Do you need to turn off the mouse gestures ect ect for gaming ?

Any other tweaks or tips?

Mainly an issue with some games not correctly going fullscreen! For example if you alt tabbed to full screen it would snap back to a window or at worse the taskbar

I'm running 8.1 and its fine for gaming, no special tweaks required unless you hate the metro interface. BF4 is smooth, along with everything else I've tried.

Running 8.1 here, no issues with any of my games. Fresh install with latest drivers.

Perhaps try Windows 8 (update to 8.1) and see what you think, if you don't like it or find you are having issues that you can't resolve then you can install Win7. Give the Windows 8 Start Screen a chance, I find I quite like it.

Nothing ventured nothing gained.

smells a bit like bait :p but .... if you dont have a mouse issue in 8.1 play as normal if you do you need to reinstall your op system until its fixed. microsoft havent even commented on it yet so it wont be soon.

WINDOWS 8 + ENABLE PEEK(OFF) + START8 or STARTISBACK or CLASSICSHELL

That's all you'll need for now ;)

Start8 is absolutely fantastic. I stuck it on my parents' PC after seeing how good it looked in videos. For them it's perfect as they were used to Windows 7, and you know what old people are like with new technology. Haven't upgraded their PC to 8.1 yet though so not sure about its compatibility.

Only found Fifa 13 which doesn't work on Windows 8.1. Which EA are refusing to patch apparently but there is a work around. Everything else works the same or better.

The only problem I've had so far with 8.1 is the introduction of mouse input lag which wasn't there for 8.0. After googling, it appears to be something to do with the multi DPI and unfortunately the fix proposed on some sites doesn't work for me.

Other than that I definetely prefer windows 8.1 compared to 8.0.
