Windows 8 for Games?

Ok, so I was thinking about jumping on the bandwagon and downloading the windows 8 beta :D but, I would like to know how it fares with games :confused:. Anyone had any problems with games. I really do not want to sacrifice my games to just try out windows 8. Whats it like? :p
 
Games work fine on it, never had any problems. I'm back with Windows 7 for now as I'm waiting on the full release coming out, I did have an early release of Win 8.
 
I dont want to partition my HDD and then dislike it and end up with part of my disk sectioned off. And It would be much easier to hear peoples experiences.
 
You could just delete the partition and stick it back onto the old one y'know.
 
I've heard people have generally good experiences with Windows 8 gaming, however if you wait a few months the gushing and/or wailing will start if it's better than 7 or there are any problems.
 
There was an article that Steam and some other company claim it restricts developers somewhat, but I am sure that is something developers will just have to deal with and will find ways around to work with the new Win 8 OS. Windows 8 boasts it's backwards compatibility and so I would expect any current games work on the new Win 8.

I wouldn't believe everything you read though. I think it will be bad for desktops.. great for portable machines, and let's face it.. that's where things are going.
I develop Android apps for that very reason,.. since Microsoft are bringing out metro.. i'll have to learn how to make the best of it. People will work on it and it will kind grow.

It's complete BS.
Windows8 is not restrictive. Games are not produced as metro apps and ONLY metro apps can be sold through the stor desktop apps can not be sold through the store, so it's complete Bs for windows8. Steam is worried about the future and rightly so, but they are not doing the right things. Computer use it changes and they need to keep upto date or be left behind.

Win8 is fantastic for gaming, hole host of new features as well as being extremely fast.
 
Well my experience is also that there are no problems gaming. I have Steam games (is saves shelf space) and everything I tried was fine.

I'm back to Windows 7 due to a couple of apps that weren't happy but will be upgrading as soon as Windows 8 is on sale.
 
No issues at all with windows 8 gaming. Iv noticed no tangible benefit to windows 8 over windows 7 in gaming terms. But it all works fine dandy and smooth.

iv noticed if you have 1 screens and game full screen on one the other screen gets dropped to 1FPS. its strange. Any way to prevent this? Its not a big issue but in some limited situations annoying.

Despite all the moaning about metro from some quarters this could be a smart move. With the sheer numbers of devices Windows 8 will reach even if it's considered a failure there is likely to be an opportunity for a decent app, or series of apps to make money, in particular whilst the market place is growing.

Personally i think metro and the Windows store is a great opportunity for "bedroom" programmers, to make a few quid and produce a portfolio of work.
 
I cant for the life of me remember were i read it but apparently there will be an option to turn on the start button for those who want it back instead of the metro system.
Ill try and find the site i read this on, if this is true though ill get Windows 8 in a heart beat, if not ill stay away from it as i cant stand metro.

Either Classic Shell or Vi Start add back menus and a start button. Just download them as they are free.

Alternatively, create a new tool-bar and point it to the programs folder and instantly there is a 'start button' you created. There are ways to do this and benefit from the enhanced performance of Windows 8.

Of course, if one removes most of the junk cluttering up the 'Metro' screen all that is then left is the programmes on the machine which can be easily arranged into groups. one click on the bottom left of the desktop takes one to the 'Metro' screen and a second click has the program running. It is actually quicker than a start menu.
