Install a Start menu (such as StartisBack, Start8 or Classic Shell) and Windows 8 is actually quite good. I do like the flat look and some of the other refinements. I'm really not sold on all these apps and the Start Screen. The Start Screen is better in 8.1, but still not as good as the old Start Menu.
Cool story bro.
The new Start might not be perfect for all scenarios, but the old one certainly wasn't. I'm amazed it stayed as it was for so long and the only reason it did was until now MS were scared to touch stuff like that due to the angry mobs kicking off at any little thing.
People use their computing devices in different ways these days. The new Start might not be for the guy hunched over his desk in the spare room but it is much better for the guy who runs the connected office with remote access from tablets and things and media centres etc etc.
