windows 8 start menu is back

And how long did it take for them to listen.....?!?!?! Better late than never, all those 3rd party start menu apps will be gone now. This should also encourage businesses to move directly onto Windows 8.1 and skip 7 if they still running XP.

One would hope most businesses are already running 7 seeing as XP will be unsupported in just a few days time!

NHS reporting in. Still tons and tons of PC's running XP here. This very machine I'm working on infact.

I'm not going to say "I told you so..."

Has this totally replaced the Start Screen? Because I feel that would be a mistake, giving people the choice between the two methods would be the best way to go as the Start Screen is pretty good for touch screen users (and there are those KB+M users who like it too).

Same here with the laptop I'm currently using now. 99.9% of our computers are still using XP  and we are a organization partly owned by the government.

The decision to drop the start menu was completely idiotic, is this a sign common sense is returning to Microsoft under Nadella?

Erm what?...sure he was presenting, everything you see from MS yesterday and the next day or so was written off under Ballmer.

That looks gash, one of the worst features of the start screen are the default live tiles, once you get rid of them it becomes so much better. and what to MS do, bring back the antiquated start menu with live tiles.

MS were never going to win as nomatter what they did they would annoy either side of the coin. They should have just stuck to there guns, now this middle of the road approach just make them look weak.

Unsurprising, but disappointing.

I don't want my start menu back :p

This, now we get lumbered with a 1990's interface once more thanks to the unsilent minority >.>

And have you guys seen they have put a power button on metro for the people too stupid to find the one on the computer (that they use to turn it on) lol.

Another public sector company here still using XP for 90% of it's workforce.

I like the new start menu, will have to uninstall my add-on and use that instead now :D

Fixed. Seriously I do wonder if some users on this forum actually talk to people in the outside world sometimes....

And I guess the power button is what a lot of people wanted, personally it doesn't bother me either way.

Nope, the majority of people who tried Windows 8 properly, liked the new interface and saw it as an improvement. The people who hate it mostly consist of either people still using XP/Vista/W7 who hate the idea of Metro, or people who installed W8 then installed a Start menu straight away.
