Far as I'm aware, you can revert back to the desktop as it just sits in the background.

It's still early my friend to start hating on Windows 8 when it's only in pre-development and trust, there not going to drop the desktop.

I just don't think I will upgrade. They haven't built it on Windows 7. It is built from scratch like Vista was. I think it will be a big flop!

Right, Windows 8 sucks.

It is designed to run on tablets, phones and mobile devices, NOT DESKTOPS!

What windows 8 doesn't have:

  • Taskbar
  • Start Button
  • Desktop
  • Anything Windows has had in the past
  • What we are used too.

Why change what we like and use everyday! I just DO NOT get it.

Tell me your thoughts and if you will upgrade from Windows 7 or not.

lmao! mate it's still in beta calm ya pants will you. As stated you missed the desktop mode! NOOB!

erm.... I don't know how you can say something sucks as a statement of fact until you have actually tried it.

As far as I am aware the OS has been optimised for both Tablets and Desktops with the Tablet UI being loadable as required on the normal Windows Explorer (Tablets getting the Tablet OS by default). I think the updates its bringing all look nice enough, nothing breathtakingly revolutionary but a solid upgrade over 7.

Assuming they get the pricing reasonable then I see no reason it will be naff and no reason I won't get it.

The fact its built from the ground up (which I hadn't read and am a little surprised by would have expected it would be based around the Server 2008 kernel) does automatically mean it will suck.

It's a Developers' Preview designed to showcase Metro and the new Windows RT runtime. It is NOT a public beta, it is NOT a full release of the OS and it is NOT intended to be used as your main operating system. It was released to show off what Metro is capable of, how well the touch UI works and to allow developers to start writing WinRT applications now.

I really wish people would understand what they are downloading, rather than seeing 'Windows 8 Download!' and thinking "Yay! Free OS!". Treat it for what it is; an early demo of Windows 8's Metro UI, and wait for the public beta.

+1 for the desktop screenshots. The Metro UI for tablets just runs over the top of windows desktop. They announced this months ago.

I think it's a stroke of genius that they're trying to put a proper operating system onto tablets. I think this will really show up iOS as being so basic.

Also, it's not for phones... thats what WP7 is for.

They say it's got Win 7 in it, then it has Vista in it. Some may argue that Win 7 is SP3 for Vista (with the bugs taken out), it's only the UI, that's stopping me from saying, that Win 8 is a SP for win 7.

Lol,I need a fail pic, bigger than the world.

You really don't have a single clue what you are talking about. Windows8 is probably the biggest update ever. It will not flop, do you have any idea how simple and powerful it is for developers.

I really wish people who try w8, watch the bloody keynotes so they understand what is going on, before jumping to totally stupid conclusions.
