Windows Codename "7" to be called....

I like Whistler which was the XP codename. Never was a fan of Longhorn or Vista mind. And I think they should keep it as numbers. The Server OS's have taken the year naming, so I think they should continue with sequentially numbering the Workstation OS's from now on, but on one condition; Windows 10 cannot be called Windows X!

i read somewhere it was originally called/codenamed "vienna", which to me doesn't actually sound to bad.....windows vienna.
windows 7's just strange, is it actually the 7th windows?

This will be a good idea if they also call the next version "Windows 8" and so on, however I don't like it when companies constantly change the naming style for the sake of it like ATI and NVIDIA do.

Although many of their other products are using or moving towards using year numbering for releases which I prefer.

my bad, there's 10 versions before widows 7?, lol. strange name then.

Windows ME and 2000 were not totally new versions of Windows though, were they? Windows 3.0, and 4.0 are part of the same group [Windows NT] .

It would make sense if by 'versions' they were meaning kernels. These are the kernel changes as I see it, correct me if I'm wrong.

1.0
2.0
3.0
4.0 [erm, maybe]
Windows 95
Windows XP
Windows Vista

It seems that Windows 7 shares the same kernel as Vista.

they were actualy different release version though, so 10 release version and 7 full builds maybe?

They're counting full build yes. It's been covered many times :p

I wouldn't be surprised if it was anything other than a heavily tweaked and optimized Vista though.

Though personally I don't think there is that much "wrong" with Vista anyhow.

edit: Coincidentally, I wonder how many board meetings and how many millions of $$$ they used to come up with that brainwave.

Nope, sounds good to me. All they have to do is remove UAC and that bloody ribbon system.

I quite like the name, for some reason.

Because it's not daft. Windows XP and Vista are both meaningless names to most people.
