have you tryed changeing the boot order back to a: hdd CD/DVD? rather than cd/dvd A: hdd?

Makes no difference, tried every order, with no effect.

Sounds like the master boot record is corrupt.

Put the windows Cd in the drive and boot from it use the Repair consol option 'R' and type FIXMBR and then FIXBOOT then type EXIT and reboot and it should fix it.
