Windows Experience Index

Has anyone tried running the windows 8 developer preview? I ask because I have a few hard drives laying about and decided why not its worth a go, on my desktop I ran the WEI and got "strange" results - even though all my hardware was the exact same ( except the HDD - i used a 2.5" laptop drive instead of my desktop drive ) and all my WEI score were higher? ( except the HDD one )
I posted this in a windows 8 forum 4 weeks ago with no response this was my post

"Hello all, had a spare hdd laying about and decided to download the developer preview (just out of curiosity) havn't had much time to tinker with it, but first thing I did was to run the performance index on my system - qucik spec - phenom 9950, his 5670 1gb 4 gb ddr2 ram (not exactly branded) and running vista 64 bit ( Installed windows 8 64 bit) now just a heads up - the spare hdd was out of a laptop and not the same in my ordinary machine, hence the lower score, but everything else in the system is the exact same, and what surprised me was that windows 8 P.I. gives me a a far better rating score than my vista os does, I know its not much to go on but was just curious if the rating criteria or something was changed? Basically how is it that my system score is so different?

Windows 8 64-bit--------------------------------- Windows Vista 64-bit

Cpu ---------------------- 7.1 ------------------------------------------- 5.9

Ram --------------------- 7.2---------------------------------------------- 5.9

Graphics------------------ 6.9----------------------------------------------5.9

Gaming Graphics---------- 6.9----------------------------------------------5.9

Primary HDD----------------5.5--------------------------------------------- 5.9

any one else have the same result?"

anyone here hav ethe same experience?

Thats pretty interesting. It looks like the scale will be made higher but the criteria to max it out wont change too much. We need someone with an SSD to see how it scores

Yeh I dont have an ssd, but did have a few 2.5 hdds about from messed up laptops lol, only ran it for about a week, was just curious overall, but as I have zero programming skills the preview was pretty much lost on me lol, did find it interesting that my scores seemed to increase but when I googled it (4 weeks ago ) I couldnt find anything on it, and havnt been using it in a while so havnt kept up to date with it :-/

Oo i just noticed your running vista 64 bit, the max for the score on there is 5.9 anyways as thats as high as the scale goes

I get 7.9 on everything with an overclocked 2600K and a single crucial C300 128gb

Ahh I see, so that might explain the jump in the numbers, It prob. wouldnt have been as noticeable then if I had of been comparing a windows 7 to windows 8 preview then

And he's overclocked it to 5593 ish, I think I rem. reading before that to get a max. score the processor needs to be atleast a 5.5ghz but when I tried to google it to link here I couldnt find it again, so I might not be 100% correct

Aye shulda looked at it :P lol, just curious, how stable is that overclock with a core voltage of 1.656? and what form of cooling are you getting? ( havnt done much overclocking but getting an i7 myself but seem to be reading not to go over 1.4v )

Yeh thats why I was curious how stable it is and what form of cooling hes using - liquid nitrogen XD

I dont trust myself with liquid anything near my pc, so my new build is sticking to good old fashioned air lol.

Does anyone have an official link to the pre-determined values you need to achieve to get a WEI of X? like a graph saying a cpu speed of X-Y gets a WEI of X-Y?

Edit* knew you needed some form of advanced skynet cooling for that vcore lol

Blimey bet thats not cheap!!

Ive looked for a link and nothing seems to be set in stone. I think its because all of the scores depend on what other components you have in your build
