"Windows has detected a hard disk problem" Samsung spinpoint f3

most likley yes, but post a screenshot so i can check the results to confirm, also do a full surface read test using hdtune, then after the full scan is complete check the smart status again to see if there is an increase in raw read errors or any reallocated sectors showing up.

if all that passes the next thing to look at would be your storage controller drivers, could have been a driver error at some point. i know of some older intel ahci drivers causing few issues. do you use the latest intel rapid storage tech drivers?

here is the hdtune screenshot i am running a scan at the moment:

hdtunez.jpg

the bottom reading shows write error rate at 92, not sure if thats bad or acceptable for that drive.

that board in your sig is an intel board so you shoudl be using intels drivers if your running in ahci mode. check device manager for your current driver info and to see if your running in ahci mode or not.

here is pic of my system and wot you shoudl be looking for:

i got different board but its same story.

well I just partitioned and formated my drive and its looking fine atm

I ll run the Dio tools another day if I need to, might just run HDtune just to check the smart status

@OP hoe you get it sorted

make sure your data is backed up

been having issues with the f3 as well, rma'd it as doing a full surface scan came up with errors.

I had problems running estool from samsungs site so I used the cd from http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/ which has samsungs and many other tools on it.

Hope you get it sorted

you didn't try to repartiction the drive? as there might be a reason why its got bad sectors, which is not its fault.
