Windows Home Server Questions?

Check your cabiling. It means that it has data in memory that it was about to write, but for some reason couldn't. I see this all the time with external drives when they have loose connectors, so it may be worth cracking open the case and making sure all your SATA cables are in tight.

Ah, hmm. Now that you mention that, I am thinking I need a new PSU.

I'm convinced one of the power connectors is dodgy, it's usually fine but I knocked it once whilst powered on, and the disk power cycled.

My WHS runs off of that PSU and a Corsair 550w powers my gaming rig, so it shouldn't be a problem.

For reference I'm running a Ion motherboard and three WD Green Powers off of it.

Actually I'm pretty convinced its a dodgy PSU. Been considering buying a new one for a while so I'll just go ahead and do it.

Thinking about http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-017-CS&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat= - that's perfectly fine for a server with a lot of HDDs isn't it? No graphics card/sound/pci devices at all.

I would have thought so. My HP ML115-G5 quad core Opteron server has a 360w power supply, and it is rated for up to 6 drives I think.

Bleh, getting errors from chkdsk now.

Had an event warning to scan C:\fs\N, and the Master File Table is corrupt, and not fixable it seems. Yet there doesn't "appear" to be any problems with my data.

Any ideas?

There should be two options to reinstall. One fresh install the other reinstall. I forget what they call them. Opt for reinstall and it will leave your data alone on the other drives.

Although it might be better to do a fresh install with the errors you are getting in which case remove the drives physically and add the drives/ move the data back once you've installed.

Hmm, now one of my hard disks has been marked Unhealthy. Annoying as it's a brand new hard drive - I've run a repair on it a few times but its not fixing it; anything else I can do?

Meh well I've decided I'll copy the data off somehow and format everything and reinstall. Annoying as I'm going to have to buy a few TB disks to do it!

Ok well I reinstalled it, and the drive still won't repair so I guess I should bin it.

It's only a few months old, can I get a replacement on warranty ya think?

Anyone with a bit more experience of WHS able to tell me why the system is taking up close to 550GB?

Blimey that is a big amount for your system.
You sure you've not dumped data on there by accident? i.e. torrent downloads? Although iirc utorrent default to D: drive for downloads, but still....
...worth looking into.
