Windows Home Server

I have 2tb of data on mine now.

I have gotten around the file corrouption by running the disks as a raid 0 setup ;) i know there is no fault tolerance. I configure/install/setup servers for a living. Anything important on there is backed up to an external drive.

All runs nice and fast. BTW The Powerpack is going to be made beta to the members of WHS Connect. (Possibly middle to end of April) :D

Hey all I hope someone can help with this.

I recently finished building my WHS rig and have set it up with my vista 32bit laptop and my first backup went fine. However last night I wanted to copy 446GB of video files from my vista 64bit ultimate desktop rig onto a shared folder I had created on WHS (yes I have read all about upcoming 64bit update). I logged into my server through windows explorer using the same username and password I use on my 32bit laptop. I logged in without a problem and was able to create a folder within my shared folder but when I tried to drag an drop the files in windows explorer I got the message that an additional 331GB of space would be needed?. My server has 3.6TB of free space available in its storage pool so its not like there's not enough space. I have full read/write access to the shared folder with my user so I don't understand what the problem is?.

Is there a default size limit to shared folders and can that be changed? blink.gif

I hope someone can help.

How big is the D partition? The server copies all its stuff there before distributing the data to the other drives. So if you have a small D partition, then you are limited to how much you can copy at once.

Yep D: partition is only 120GB if I'd known that was the case I would have installed a 750GB system drive and not a 160GB drive. Anyone know if its possible to either move the d: partition to another disc or to ghost and restore c: and d: drives to another disc??.

Nope. You cant move the D partition to another disk. Dont know about cloning the drive though. Ask on microsofts WHS forum Thats why microsoft tell you to use the biggest disk as the system disk. You will just have to do it in small moves.

The problem is with Vista in that it looks to see if there is space before copying the data across. WHS then reports the size of the D partition, and if this is not sufficent then Vista will not let the file copy begin. I am sure that there must be a way around this, try doing a search for avoiding files size detection. On the other hand there is always that 750 Gb drive you were thinking of buying......

Yes have gone ahead and ordered the 750gb disc... I am hoping that I won't have to order anything from overclockers now for a few months. I have spent a small fortune with them recently!.

Still need to build a WHS rig. I bought WHS about 2 months ago but have yet to buy anything for my new pc to allow for me to re-cycle my existing system.

I almost picked up a HP ML110 G5 just to start using WHS.
