Windows install problem

I completed my first built computer the other day but am having issues with windows. When I install it it gets to the part where it says it is copying files and comes up with the message saying some files are missing. I managed to borrow a copy from my dads work incase I had a damaged cd but it does the same bringing up the same files as missing. I tried skipping but this brings up a fatal error later, I cant see that I managed to get two faulty cds so could it be a hardware issue?

Can anybody give me a hand with what could be up? :(

these sort of errors quite often point towards the ram as being the cause of the problem. if you're overclocking, set everything back to stock and try again. also it might be worth trying out memtest to test your ram. run this for a few hours at least.....

http://www.memtest.org/#downiso

if these tests fail with your ram at default settings, then it's rma time i'm afraid. an alternative is increasing the vdimm voltage and/or slackening the timings but this is not something you should have to do with new ram. :)

I had a very similar problem, it turned out to be the motherboard :)

:( this is going to be annoying, ive not done any overclocking, wouldnt know where to start. So it looks like something hardware is faulty?

Could be yeah, now comes the fun of testing it and then even more fun getting it replaced :(

You could try your RAM in another computer and maybe your hard drive as well to check those?

Craig.

Would it just be down to faulty hardware or could it be incompatable?

my spec is:

MB-062-GI Gigabyte GA_965P_DS4 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

edit: I've jsut read this, not sure what it means but could this be the problem?

Some people have said that the DS4 is alright with geil, it posts but you have to go into the bios to up the vdimm to the Geil's stock. The board seems to be set a bit low.

(I don't have one but there is certainly a thread on this, I think it was called something along the lines of "To all current and future DS3, 4 owners")

I'm not sure if the power supply could be causing these problems but to be using a PSU that comes in a case on a powerful PC isn't a too good idea :(

Run memtest (http://www.memtest86.com/) to test for memory errors.

Im running this at the moment, does it get to a point and actaully finish or keep looping? Have been going nearly two hours now.

Where it says errors its currently at 4365000 and counting, im guessing that pretty bad, so would that suggest its time to return the RAM?
