Hey xp has never skipped a beat for me.Im with the op. Windows is incredibly stable these days. Only time I ever get BSOD is when an overclock fails, or there is a hardware error.
I remember the 95/98/me/xp days!
This isn't about e-penis. I simply didn't realise it has been so long since I have rebooted my workstation. Then it occurred to me the reason I hadn't realised is because Windows is simply unbelievably stable these days.KIA said:Massive uptime for huge e-penis or a patched box?
A patched box.
Agreed.Skipping updates on a networked PC isn't usually the best idea, even if it hurts your uptime numbers.
Our server has had 100% uptime since we installed the UPS![]()
Good 'ol Windows 98.. You clicked anything and it bluescreened![]()
Reboot every day. Doesn't feel right trusting Windows to happily tick along, lol
Those days are over, really! Any version of Windows based on the NT kernel (2000 onwards) can generally be trusted to tick over happily for weeks on end, providing the hardware is stable and the latest service packs and drivers are applied.
Once you start using sleep mode, you never go back to shutting down!![]()
What if you don't even use sleep mode? Even after buying an SSD for the OS?![]()

Then you're missing out
I hate shutting down now. It's not so much the 30-second boot-up time as the hassle of getting your applications back to their previous state and waiting for Windows to do its caching wizardry. Sleep mode does wonders for your workflow.
