Windows Live Beta 3

Great, just installed the latest update and I realised there isnt an update to version of 'a-patch' out yet. Stuck with lame advertising and stupid stuff I never use

They have streamlined a few things, changing icons, removing the Available, busy text to an option (which i love), adjusted colours on the msg box. The text in the msg window looks a bit more smooth but I'm not sure if thats just my eyes playing up on me. Thats all I can see on the visual point of things. Doesn't look like they've included any additional programs, features from a first glance

The sharing folders has changed and now links to your 25GB Skydrive account :)

[edit] also, I don't remember seeing this in the last version of hte beta but you can now have updates from various social networks such as Twitter in the What's New section, if you have your contact list open all the time it may be semi-useful. Not sure if this is for your entire Twitter account or just those on your WLM contact list who use twitter. Not using the feature myself.

I really want to upgrade but I need to know if it allows you to do the following two things:

1). Organise contacts by status - Online and Offline
2). Display contacts by e-mail address only!

Any answers would be highly appreciated

Thanks

Neil

Ah its ok, If you select 'Organize contacts by Categories' at the bottom of your pic it shows different options....mines on Online Status.

Mystery solved! :p

Tried it, seems the same as previous versions I tried. All I was interested in was the email client and photo gallery.

What irritates me about these products is they use their own theme and not the system theme, in XP. I hate any program which does that straight away.

The email client doesn't let you have toolbar buttons like Outlook Express or Windows Mail. It's the new Microsoft way of doing things, less choice and customisation options than their older software provided.

The gallery software is still broken in terms of its picture resize and zoom algorithm which is simply poor - the built in gallery software in Vista has the same flaw. The XP picture viewer is still superior, or 3rd party software like Faststone which uses the Lancsoz algorithm to resize images.

I've recently uninstalled MSN messenger and opted for Digsby I've never looked back. Plugs in to the MSN/Yahoo/AIM networks and Facebook chat :)

I've seriously got to find an alternative to MSN now. This thing is seriously PHAT. Man, during the Miranda days my custom install of that weighed in at under 2mb. WLM is just getting bloated, and bloated and bloated. Even with A-Patch, it's still a fat, ugly duckling of an app.

Does it have ads?

Also does it have conversation logging (something I like in MSN!)

Looks quite good that. Might use that for a bit until I can patch MSN.

No to the first question and as for the second, I think it does yes.

Best part of it is it has its own conversation window skins built in to choose from. I like that!

Just a question, how do you change your MSN avatar picture? I can see the one for AIM. Plus when you paste something from a website into the conversation it automatically changes the font type you were using and it doesnt resort back. Actually its only happened once or twice so far. Probably a bug then

Why does nothing happen when I click on my email inbox? I read somewhere that it's supposed to open emails in your default browser (at last - no more need for IE!) but it doesn't work :(

I haven't got any updates in a while so maybe this is fixed but an annoying thing is like last night for instance, was playing left for dead for like 2 hours closed the game to find MSN had signed itself out and had left me 30 pop's telling me that it couldn't sign back in. And will only ever sign back in if i exit the program then reopen it.
Maybe this is fixed but it's proper annoying, meh i like this msn anyway

Great update so far for me. I like the way the annoying icons for call etc. have gone, and replaced with a sort of glassy text. Does anyone know how to get rid of the status updates bar on the bottom??
