The company told these users that they were using a new version of Windows, codenamed "Mojave." When asked about their experience with using Mojave, over 90 percent said they were impressed with what they saw. Then Microsoft told them they had been using Vista all along.

Do you dislike Vista because of press reviews? Forum members who dislike Vista? Or do you genuinely think XP is better than Vista?

This would have sounded better if the 'trials' were run by a company not affiliated with Microsoft in any way . . Simply because everyone will be crying OMG HAX at the news . . .

Personally, I use Vista x64 and love it.

Interesting. Maybe it's because Mojave sounds better than "Longhorn" did.

I'm sure there is a large element of people hating for the sake of hating though.
That said, I've not upgaded to Vista yet

Even if it was Apple that did the trials, fanbois would cry and say Apple had been paid of.

the fact that these people were 'fooled' into thinking it was a new os means they've not used it in the first place, and just jumped on the 'i hate vista' bandwagon

-i had gripes with vista at first (due to my 7900gt not liking vista), i just put vista down for a bit until i had a new card and have used it since

it's a great os, but as with xp, there's little point running it on anything besides high end hardware (at the time of the os release)

A lot of people dislike Vista because of the bad reviews and bad press it gets (got?).

I've spoken to a lot of people that say Vista sucks. I ask them if they've used it... they haven't

It's like people who say Linux sucks when they've never used it. So stupid.

Sorry but if these users did not know they were using Vista, then they are not the smartest people on the earth and hardly worth listening too.

Taken with a pinch of salt ;)

Vista is alright, apart from applications freezing occasionally and my internet connection dropping randomly when ICS is installed, it's still nowhere near as stable as Xubuntu running on my laptop though and that was just as easy to install as Vista was. .

things to do with vista..

have a multi core cpu
have at least 4gb ram
have 64bit
turn off defender real-time scanning
tweak uac to silent mode (or disable uac)

then it's fast as hell, and stable as you like

Would you say 4Gb even in a Laptop?

for decent desktop performance, yes..

otherwise, xp is better suited

loads of people will disagree with me, but imo vista is sluggish with 2gb for a normal user

so they took a group of people who just "use" xp and said "here's a new os". they didn't spot that it was vista (and so clearly have no idea about such things) and unsurprisingly people said "that looks pretty, i prefer it". excellent piece of research :)

I think you've missed the point of what they've tried to achieve.

The majority of users that bash Vista seem to hate it simply because it has become "the norm" to hate it. Similar to what happened with XP's initial release although Vista has come across much worse IMO. They're specifically targetting people who haven't used Vista simply because of the bad press it has got.

If Microsoft can get these users who simply hate Vista because of the reputation that it's got from Press and "tech" people whilst never using it - to actually use the OS, and actually get them to say they like it... Then it's mission accomplished.

You forget that the main core of Microsoft's market is not the clued up geeks, it's Mom & Pops at home who... if the media say something is bad, or they hear from their friends/relatives that something is bad... they'll automatically say it's bad themselves.

Microsoft have convinced people who would normally never have thought of using Vista simply because of the name/press, to use it, try it and they enjoy using it.

Personally, Vista is a very good OS, yes it's nice and it's shiny but it's also very stable and is a welcomed change from XP and I can count the number of issues I've had with Vista on one hand.
