Windows, not doing much?

Hi Guys,

Just got my second HP G70 laptop, as the previous one had a very noisy fan.

I've just booted for the first time, it's checks the time, location etc and I've entered a password.

Anyway, it won't progress into the desk top, it just stays blank? The screensaver is kicking in so windows is doing something and I can get into task manager!

Any ideas?

Might be just borked. Have you got recovery CDs? Try a reinstall, if it's still playing silly beggars after that send it back.

What happens in safe mode?

Embarassingly I don't know how to get into safe mode?

Shame realy 'cos there's a nice simple elegance to these...

Go to task manager then click on File > Run new task.

Type in explorer.

Prob won't fix the problem but see if it loads up then.

Usually something like hold F8 on boot, give that a try...

I buy quite a lot of HP kit because hardware-wise they are usually very good (although I've had a couple of keys pop off those laptop keyboards a bit too easily).

Software-wise however they are hit and miss and sometimes the pre-loaded image is pretty naff which is why I suggest a reinstall and check all the drivers are up to date. Might be easier than trying to troubleshoot with a blank screen.
