Odd one this, I've been using a PC at work for the last 3 years or so and today it comes up with the version of windows is not genuine (Windows XP)?

Nothing has changed on the PC at all so I'm not sure why its happened. I've tried to download the WGAvalidation software but its refusing to do so (firefox) and the only options I'm getting is to buy a new version of windows 7.

Anyway i can get this sorted out?

Nice no-name PC from an indy builder?

forgot about this topic. No its an HP Compaq but we're trying to remember where we bought it from (legitimate not a fly by night place) It was originally sold as a Vista PC with XP downgrade (which its been running) with no problems for however many years and today it just popped up with that message. I am in line of getting a new work pc but my old one will be shifted through to the secretary as it will be an improvement on hers so we'd like it not to have that message! :p

I thought with vitsa downgrade you could pop in any xp product key and ring through the automated system to activate it. As long as you have a Vista OEM sticker.

Yes that's correct but there is only a number of times it can be activated on an xp code before its blacklisted. As far as I am aware though the code will just not activate rather than down the line reverse the activation. I know that can be done with W7 and W8 but not xp...

Normally when this happens its when you have changed a significant piece of hardware. If you know anyone that has xp on their system just get the CD key and use that and if it asks you to activate and will not do it online then call them up and go through the automated service and when it asks you how many computers its installed on just chose 1 and it will activate.
