*** Windows Phone 8: Apollo ***

You're kidding right? So I have to buy a Windows 8 PC (or upgrade my OS), I have to buy a Windows 8 tablet, and I have to buy a WP8 phone? Ignoring I may already have a tablet and a phone. And I'll do all this just so my devices can talk to each other in a way I'd rarely care about?

What we need is a phone/tablet that could run iOS or WM8 :)

So, hypothetically -

Windows Phone 8
Fancy Nokia design
41MP camera
Dual-core S4 CPU or similar
720p 4.3-4.8" SAMOLED screen
16/32GB + MicroSD
2500-3000 mAh battery

Yes. Please. :p

tbh for me, as long as its battery life is 2days + then I would be happy.. 41MP camera is a bit overkill?!

Oh, also have to play mkv files.

I'm guessing you have large hands/large pockets ;)

You will upgrade your OS for sure but not necessarily immediately. Your tablets and phones won’t have to change but when the time comes to upgrade you will have a choice whether to integrate all your devices into a one world scenario.

You will have that choice of one world, one which you don’t today. It will be up to you whether you want to go that way but the world will be available and getting better by the month.

A fragmented world or an integrated one, what a great choice! I know which one I would like.

You saw how big the camera module was on the 808? I guess battery wise something like the RAZR MAXX does fit it in well. Still, that camera....

Ah, the camera! Well yes, that's rather big. :p

I'd happily put up with it though to be honest, maybe they can make it a bit slimmer.

However, I'd be very, very surprised if they use the 41MP camera in any of the Windows Phones.

Sorry, missed the beginning of this.. What's the extent of the integration between devices? Just how much of my PC could I take with me on my phone?

No Windows Phone 8 for us current users :(

Even weirder is I would've thought the main problem was that shiny new Start Screen. Which we are apparently getting...

Also about integration. In the consumer space we only need look at Apple to know nobody really cares about it to that extent. The vast majority of iPods were connected to Windows. The vast majority of iPhones are connected to Windows. It's a nice "dream" but if Microsoft expects it to sell more Windows Phones it'll only have a marginal impact.

Isn't that what apple say about the cloud though? They're still all great devices on their own even without the integration. Chances are you'll have a W8 pc anyway so that integration is most of what matters. The tablet integration is an advantage for the tablet it doesn't really make your WP8 or W8 experience better.

Windows Phone 7.8 will still be based on the CE kernel and won’t enable advanced Windows Phone 8 features like app and games that use native programming, but it will give current users the new Start screen and appearance of Windows Phone 8.

That's it. I'm done.

Nokia have now managed to do in less than two years:

Native Symbian

to

Qt

to

WP7

to

WP8

To Android or dare I think it iOS!

Phones supported for at least 18 months with software updates. A geeks program for early software updates before the masses.

I'm concerned about my 7 month old Nokia lumia 800 and having the app lmarketplace bring abbandoned for the new marketplace, if they dont encourage developers to build fir 7.8 as well, this will be my first and last WP device.
