Windows: Purchase or Cracked?

The way I look at it is, I have enough trouble as it is trying to keep my computer virus free, stable, working effectively, running smoothly, things loading up quickly etc, without having to worry about piracy as well!

I got my Win7 Pro retail for free. back when it came out they were going for £45 each so I bought 3, sold 2 (£80 each so still a big saving to the buyers) and got a tidy earning :D

Snooze you lose to be honest :P

What's the "true" benefits of purchasing Windows? It is so easily and readily available from various different sources for free.

The truth is there are no benefits to purchasing it unfortunately.

However... that's all just nonsense and you should have course purchase it right here from OcUK for £80 :D

Sounds like your a bit miffed you forked out 80 quid when you really didn't need to :p.

As mentioned. The cracked versions work 100% the same as the originals. Updates, software from MS etc. It's all the same and undetectable. It even gives you the "verified software" emblem and congratulates you on using genuine software.

Very annoying for Microsoft losing a few hundred million $$$

Extremely annoying for the fools who paid 80 quid for software that's flawed when it can be attained for much less.

Like I said. These are my own personal views and I don't encourage piracy or law breaking of any kind. One should always purchase genuine software like my self from OcUK.
Why say one thing and then caveat it with a contradictory "oh, but I don't mean it" statement at the end? It's like calling you a **** and then using a :) to show I didn't mean it really, honest... ;) You might as well start with "Well, I have this friend who rips off software..."

Whilst the majority of cracks are pretty simple for Microsoft to pick-up it's possible to activate it so it works like it's 100% legit and almost impossible for Microsoft to prevent with the way licensing currently works.
Just because you can doesn't mean you should though does it, especially given how much use and value the average user gets out of the OS over the years they use it.

Of course. I was merely pointing it out :p.

Windows is pretty cheap in comparison to a lot of day-to-day software. Developer tools e.g. Visual Studio and SQL Server (on a production server) cost a fortune! Not to mention Office which costs about the same as a new PC.

I would go for the uncracked AND free option... Ubuntu :p
Makes absolute sense. If someone doesn't see enough value in a copy of Win7 to pay for it then go with one of the excellent Linux distros rather than crack, pirate or rip a copy of Windows off.

If Linux doesn't do what you want but Windows 7 (for example) does then you should be happy to see enough value in it to pay for it. As Pho says, it's not exactly expensive now compared to all the other components of a PC, especially if you look at eventual price per use over the several years you're likely to use it.

I think Mars bars are expensive, have better alternatives out there and the supermarkets are not exactly going to go out of business if I steal a few. It doesn't mean I feel the need to fill my pockets on the way out, though. I'd sound pretty ridiculous shouting "you can get them cheaper over the road" or "I don't like them anyway" in my defense.

You are extremely unlikely to get into trouble for using a cracked copy of Windows. But if fear of punishment is the only thing stopping you from arbitrarily helping yourself to anything and everything you think you're above paying for, then the problem is a bit bigger than Microsoft's pricing strategy I feel.

If you think it's ok, then fine, but at least tell it like it is - you feel entitled to get something for free that other people have to pay for. And yes, have to pay for, because if nobody paid then there wouldn't be anything to steal.

Sounds like your of those people who paid for it ;)

Chill out. If you don't like what I'm saying. Don't bother telling me. I don't really care.

The majority of their sales is not from standalone copies. It's from selling OEM copies to the big manufacturers who produce their PCs with the license. HP, Dell etc.
