Windows software team scam

Wish they would ring me, do they have a website?

Edit; oh they proxy through logmein lol.

I'd consider making a connection on a sandbox to get some details from them, but never had a call!

the annoying thing is you always plan to string them along then when the gits call it's always when your busy.

I'm a student, I'm never busy! :D

But seriously though, I don't understand how companies like this are making enough money to continue calling people for hours at a time.

I guess its the unfortunate 0.00001% that allows them to access their computers and/or credit card details that are keeping these scams afloat.

What I don't get is a lot of people of these forums are targeted. Maybe they are collecting data from these forums some how?

Did you honestly just write that?

Me thinks him paranoid

I'll just say this, its a valid question. Its easy to go here and look for member usernames/emails,then go on google search for them and then have a look through your personal collection of compromised websites for them and find their passwords in the database and every other scrap of info:)

I already saw some of the members passwords from here off another site i compromised (i was curious) lol. Dont use the same password on more than 1 site ;)

obviously they are calling randomly but its not beyond the realms of possability they could look at forums like this and find enough info about somebody to target them, sometimes all you need is a username or email address and google is your friend. then if you are even more clever and you find they are a member of some shoddily coded website but dont display their personal info publicly u can log in as admin and find the info they used to register on the site very easily, some of the ones i've been on the admin can see the passwords like this "*****" all you do is put a little javascript code in your web browser and u see the password.

BTW,is it illegal for a website to store information in this way?

Half of me is wishing I get called by some of these goons and I can mess with them.

The other half is being paranoid and thinking "Then I will be on other spam lists! And some of those could be more malicious...."

From that, it's quite obvious I haven't been called.

@BarBrawllin:
Pretty sure it's not illegal, but IMO it's bad practice if you're a web admin that doesn't research on security much :/

Surely you mean avoid, the member ship of this forum are unlikly to fall for it and instead waste time.

they just buy huge lists of phone numbers from marketing companies/other places.

they ideally want elderly people who are confused with technology.

its 100% scam and i think it likely to be indian or chinese who phone people claimed to be from microsoft, i has called many times but successfully cut off by caller blocker unit.. dont pick up, just hang up or ingore it. stupid people who trying do that that crime for steal people details...

They have evolved... I was told, "no, sir, we are not from Microsoft, Microsoft will never call you, but we are a partner for software support!"

Still proud that I stopped them from robbing some old dear for that long. From my perspective as a comms guy I think that incoming withheld number (and possibly international) barring should be standard on all land lines in all honesty. It would put paid to a lot of this kind of stuff.

WOW just WOW.

Its actually not that surprising. Everybody has mobiles these days and land lines are becoming more and more redundant. The only trouble is the line rental requirement for broadband.

The only calls i get on my landline or from telemarkets or my mother, when i don't have Skype loaded up. In either case, its fine to answer in a silly voice, and i could happily unplug it and lose nothing :p

Bwhahaha just had an epic one. I did my finest falsetto monty python voice, with the queens english accent, lasting about 10 minutes. I told him my computer takes rather a long time to load up so ill just put the kettle on for a cup of tea. Then he asked me to press the windows key and R together, so i got the window key off the window sill and expressed my befuddlement because no matter how much I jammed them together, nothing was happening. He was getting increasingly agitated with me but sticking to his guns.

I ended it by dropping my voice and 'Dude, i am a man, you fraudulent ******* scamming old ladies out of money. Go **** yourself.... (repeat till he hang up)

Next time, i think i will do a doddering old couple having an argument down the phone, possibly ending in a heart attack and 'Do you know CPR?'
