what is the visual styles that i extracted?

the only files in the folder named uxtheme_sp2, are uxtheme.dll and theme_update, theme_update says its updating old files on a blasck screen, and uxtheme.dll asks how it should be opened, which i dont know what program it shouyld be opened with.

Anyone help on what to do?

Also i have a file named orion_glass.rar, although i beleive it was from a seperate place as its in a different folder, should i do anything with this?

after you've run theme_update, reboot your pc then open the orion_glass.rar and double click Orion Glass.msstyles. then click ok.

Is there anywhere that i can download some more uxthemes from???

thanks

http://browse.deviantart.com/skins/windows/visualstyle/?view=1&order=9&limit=24

Also, if you put the visual styles in their own folder insid C:\WINDOWS\Resources\Themes then they appear in the Appearance menu when you right click desktop and go to properties.

ahh... you'll need winrar. http://www.rarlab.com/

winrar's like winzip but instead of creating .zip file it makes .rar files (can also make .zip files)

then use that to open the orion_glass.rar, orion_glass.mysstyles is in there.

have you got to buy winrar? any free versions of this if u do have to buy?

hey hey i got it working, but now when i try to run the mystyles file, it goes to the appearance thing and i click apply and i get this messege, anyone know what to do?

"the visual style could not be appliad. the service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion"

if you go to the download page, at the top are trials.

They are supposed to be 40 day trials but then all that happens is it pops up asking you to either buy a license or delete it from your computer.

7-zip - http://www.7-zip.org/ is open source and should be able to unzip .rar files.

hmm, I don't know. Sorry mate.

I tried to replicate what i thought it might be on my flatmate's PC. I thought the batch file might not have replaced the uxtheme.dll files properly, but then when you run orion_glass.msstyles, it just opens the appearance box and the only options are the Luna and Windows standard ones.

no worries, i got it working last night, although i did screw up a lot of my computer as i lost interent and divx wasnt working, but once i restarted 6 times it starting working.

I like it but a few grips with it, if you can change them please tell me. when you click on the start button, the thing that then pops up, not sure name, start menu maybe, it overlaps each other. like so the left light cream coloured part with last used programs and things like interent and outlook that are pinned to start, that section overlaps the black part with my doucments so i dont get *** full name of the files, i got y documents. hope that makes sense. anyone know a fix?

Like I said earlier, got it working using the uxtheme installer and looks very nice only problem is when I turn off or system restart I loose the lovely vist like taskbar  all the other window theme settings are still applied?? If I change to the orion theme the taskbar comes back, but lose it again as soon as I restart,,, any ideas guys??

thanks

I actually just installed this myself about 30 minutes ago, and feel EXACTLY the same, trying to use outlook does tend to burn your retinas. Same goes for working in Windows Explorer.
Other than this though, I do like it :)
