Hello, I have just purchased a Windows 7 64bit upgrade disk, i intend to install this over an existing windows xp licence i already have. How can I install XP on a SSD in order to get Win7 installed.

Is thisthe normal way, I have seen some threads on OC stating you need the AHCi driver, where do I get this from and at what point do I install it. I only need XP on to do a direct upgrade, as I know Win7 requires a full format and install.

thanks..

Does W7 upgrade allow you to type in a qualifying product key instead of having to check for the existing install of XP first?

After you finished I'd like to know if the upgrade still creates the W7 100MB recovery partition, or just installs in the existing partition that XP made.

I'm finally making the jump from XP to Win7.

This whole upgrading thing... I thought you could only upgrade from vista? If I can simply upgrade my XP install (its about 3 years of games and other junk now) it would save me many hours of reinstalling.

Any tips?
