Windscreen Chip Repair Recommendations

I had a windscreen replacement going back maybe about 8 years ago now, so probably out of reach to do anything about it. Will definitely bear in mind next time the potential costs of a claim vs paying out of my own pocket.

Come to think of it, I seem to recall not even speaking to my insurance company to arrange a repair, it was just a case of entering my reg into auto glass website and they did the rest.

To be fair until recently I was the same, thought they didn't need to be declared but I'd also never needed to use it. If you go into the bit where you declare any claims/accidents/etc there's generally an option in the drop down for "windscreen/glass claim" these days.

Yep it is, unfortunately. I had to get my windscreen replaced 3 years ago...still paying for it for the next couple of years lol. If it was just a chip I'd have paid out of pocket. Not worth the increased insurance premium as it is classed as a fault claim

Yes, the gentleman who repaired it said that DIY kit is superficial only. The professional fix is where the resin is filled between the layers of glass to restore original strength.

Thankfully (touch wood) I've not had any non-glass related claims so I've never seen a drop-down box as I've always selected no.

Seems a bit of a cop out from insurance (probably expected) considering most glass repairs/replacements will occur from normal driving, just bad luck of a loose stone on the road (in my case it came off another car, so absolutely nothing you could do about it).
 
It's anecdotal evidence only, but last year I claimed for a windscreen chip repair twice with LV, during the renewal the claims were automatically showing and my insurance costs decreased the same % as a different car with no claims at the same address, again not exactly an answer, but you may find it doesn't end up costing? I admit though it could be that without the claims my renewal may have been even cheaper?

Like with anything involving insurance YMMV, I only checked as I was running quotes for my renewal anyway so tried it with a glass claim and it definitely got rid of a couple of the cheaper quotes.
 
Thread revival got a chip on mine smaller then 5p so got local mobile company guy coming to do it, even though im not going through insurance do you need to declare the chip to them?
 
Local quote from company £552 for new front windscreen, apparently after showing a photo the stone hit a previously repaired chip so cant be repaired thats my luck :(

Its only small and on left hand side so not in view, however going to have to get it replaced at some stage he did say it shouldnt crack due to previous repair.

I have BMW M135i with head up display does this sound about right? seems very expensive for a new front screen might have to go through insurance.

Have you checked with Autoglass? If I am not wrong new windscreen through insurance won't affect your NCB but you will have to declare it every year for a new quote.
 
We got a few chips repaired through our insurance, didn't cost us a penny, didn't affect our NCD and our premiums definitely didn't go up as a result honest I promise I'd never lie to you I'm an honest insurance company honest guv.

Ye £190 with insurance, LV use Autoglass and there a link from there website.

I just worry about heads up display and auto rain sensor wipers hopefully it will still work after they replace it.
