WinRAR slow to open // Alternatives ?

Yep 7zip is good but isn't winrar faster ?....

Anyway I downgraded winrar to 3.9 or something and that seems to have solved the problem. Strange.... I'm sure I've had this problem with 4.2 before

7zip, that is all, been using it since the early 2000's as I had moved straight from PKUNZIP.exe to Winrar (winzip was for retards) and I wasn't really liking Winrar that much, 7zip does everything you could want of Winrar, just better.

Out of curiousity, do you mean that it takes a while to load or is slow at Un-Rar'ing.

To load.... it's very strange. I turned off AV and it's still the same. Slow to load but extracts files perfectly fine

But 7zip will open everything. It just won't create a rar file.

But, generally, I find a 7z file is better than a rar file anyway.

yup it compresses better than anything else. it's good for personal use but i still use .zip for anything i want to share. not everyone has a dedicated archiver installed.

To patch your current file..

Works with v9.20 and above

Download this
Create C:\7zip
Extract 7z file to that folder
Close 7zip
Copy your 7z.dll from %programfiles%\7zip to C:\7zip
Run the #icons patcher 2013 and follow the menu system
Copy the new 7z.dll back to the %programfiles%\7zip folder
Open 7zip File Manager in admin mode, Tools, Options, set your associations, then click OK
May require a restart to show up

Any icon pack will work with any version of Windows.

THG just did extensive benchmarking with 7-Zip, MagicRAR, WinRAR and WinZip and as you would expect 7-Zip destroyed the competition

Adding fuel to an already blazing fire, but I am standing to be counted for 7-Zip also.

I was always a WinRAR user but got sick of the Trial pop-up. 7-Zip is free and works just as well.
